It just goes to show how far this show has fallen that I opted to watch two week's worth of both Legends and Supergirl before watching this. It used to be I couldn't wait to watch the latest episode of Arrow, now it feels like homework. But with the finish line in sight, ride or die, as they say.
And even then, five minutes in I stepped away to run some errands before it got too
Do reporters really have such frequent and utter disregard for an active crime scene? I get that they want to get a scoop on a possibly significant story, but when Dinah said, "Hey, keep those reporters back," it suddenly occurred to me how much that seems to border on the cliche.
Should Dinah be the one questioning Oliver, since she's also on his special team of vigilantes? I've been trying to figure out how that dynamic works and who's in charge, namely on the team, what with Dinah's position and rank on the force now. Either way, this seems like a conflict of interest just to start with.
For that matter, why Dinah taking the bad cop approach with Oliver? They're not on the outs anymore, it's not even "his" team, but "their" team since she's one of "them". So why is she not giving him the benefit of the doubt? I mean, that of course is why she shouldn't be interviewing him, since she should be sympathetic to Oliver and whatever he might say.
Also, if Oliver and his team are sanction/deputized agents of the Star City PD, and they had to go through that training bullshit; if they're suspected of having killed anyone in that capacity, shouldn't the SCPD be handling it the same way they would if it were another cop? And I don't mean that with the glib implication of just sweeping it under the rug; I mean, do Oliver and the others get a union rep (are they part of the union? Are they getting paid?) At the very least it seems like Internal Affairs should be investigating the incident to identify if anyone inside the department, which at this point no matter how you look at it would include Oliver and his team, did anything wrong; or if lethal force was warranted in the course of their actions as sanctioned law enforcement.
Setting aside the convert/confidential element of...whatever this cluster fuck has become of the bullshit arrangement between the SCPD and Team Arrow; why the fuck have they not identified Emiko as the "new Green Arrow" in some official capacity to the SCPD? Mind you, I don't even know who they would report that to, since Dinah appears to be at the top of the food chain within the department; and she already knew and deemed it necessary not to disseminate that information to the lower ranks.
And why is Oliver being a dick to the officer interviewing Oliver with Dinah? I know he might be defensive in response to the officer's attitude, but seriously, he's just doing his job; so stop dancing around the matter and give a clear and concise response to why you're not guilty. What's so hard about that?
Since they've set this episode up to likely take place predominantly in flashback, does that mean most of the episode is going to have this stupid sepia tinge to it?
So because Emiko killed Dante, they're writing her off as beyond redemption....? Really? Wasn't that basically Other-Laurel's entire arc this season? Hasn't that been Oliver's entire arc in the course of this series??
Wait, why is Rene hanging back? I mean, they legitimately don't appear to have a reason for him not to leave - either to attend to something else or go with one of the other members for a specific task - he's just staying in the bunker, hanging out with Felicity, who doesn't even seem to want him there.
So the public knows John is Spartan, which I guess makes sense that his identity would need to be public now, but did people know the code name "Spartan" before this? I mean, it took how long before Oliver was "The Green Arrow"? And that was basically workshopped through the public and the press; starting with the Hood, then the Arrow; and then he only became the Green Arrow when he went on TV and told them as much.
Dinah: "I want to believe you Ollie," - then why the fuck don't you? Dear God, you know full fucking well there's at least one other archer on the loose; why the hell aren't you able to give Oliver the benefit of the doubt?
AUGH!!!! - Seriously, if the guards were seriously beaten to death, a) what in Oliver's recent history would lead you to believe that Oliver would up and start doing this shit, and b) which is it, were they shot to death with arrows or were they beaten? Because being beaten to death pretty much makes it fair game for virtually anyone to have done it.
WHAT THE FUCK - THIS is how they bring Roy into the fold in the present? Fuck you writers.
What idiot directed this episode and thought, "you know what we need to add gravitas to this scene? Felicity going to town on a sandwich!"
Really, Roy was your ace in the hole? How? For starters, Roy's identity as a vigilante was exposed a long ass time ago; you honestly want us to believe Emiko didn't figure out he was part of you merry team? Second, how does that help you at all? What difference does it make if Emiko and the Ninth Circle know what one of you looks like; especially if that person is wearing a fucking mask and red leather???
Wait, did Felicity actually suggest that just because Roy left town and didn't break any laws, that she knows of, before coming back, he should be considered a former criminal? I mean, it's weird that they're parsing his time as Arsenal as his time as a criminal - it's technically correct, but it's weird - but from Dinah's perspective as a cop, that's not how being a former criminal works, because he didn't actually serve time for his crime or face actual justice.
And are they just going to gloss over that he's been with Thea for the last year pissing in Lazarus pits or whatever they were doing?
With a poker face like Felicity's, it's obvious how they managed to go 20 years without anyone finding out she's pregnant. Because in the present they still have a reason for not telling anyone....for some reason....
Oliver: "Last I heard from her, you were zeroing in on the remaining Lazarus Pits?" - Well, seeing how that was legitimately the reason they left town in the first place, does that mean you haven't actually heard from her since then, or were you just reminding the audiences what they've been up to?
Okay, first the sandwich, now gummy bears; rule of three demands a big pay off, so Felicity better be fucking eating an ice cream sundae or carving a turkey or something. I will accept nothing less from such a ridiculous choice of site gag during something that should be taken seriously.
This edition of "The Floor is Lava," brought to you by Arrow on the CW.... Dare to defy - all reason.
So is Felicity telling the cops how an unsanctioned vigilante broke into a private facility?
Yeah, Felicity, Roy only attempted to commit a felony; and as is becoming the accepted norm, it's only illegal if you're actually successful at breaking the law.
And dear God, are they building up to revealing that Oliver and Felicity have twins or something? We get it, you're pregnant and just hungry all the time, yet don't show any signs of where you put. I regularly find myself wondering how I ever liked this character once upon a time...
Well, Felicity lied about seeing the guards; here's hoping to the revelation that she killed the guards just for fun and is in fact the head of the Ninth Circle.
Well, Roy is clearly not a hard man to track down; they brought him in pretty easily.
Oh, Jesus Christ, does this police officer do anything other than lean in and glare at the person being interviewed; before asking an incredulous question or accusation? He's coming off more like an SNL parody of an angry cop.
Oh, well, since Rene was found in a suspicious situation that makes him look guilty, right before a commercial break, I bet he's the one who killed the guards....
Dinah: "Two men are dead, Rene. Now we know Team Arrow was on site, as well as Emiko. Which means our two prime suspects are either her or......"
Rene: "Me?"
Dinah: "I didn't say that."
Okay, first, fuck you. Second, fuck you. Third, fuck you. The only God damn reason you didn't technically say it was because Rene beat you to it. Are you going to stand there and say you were going to say, "Which means our two prime suspects are either her, or the police officer standing next to you. Surprise, it's the police officer next to you, collar him Rene!"?
It's called inference based on you heavily implying what you're going to say next.
Wait, Dinah and Rene have been on the outs all year? Since when? Because he trusted Emiko? Fuck you, that was for like, three weeks at the start of the fucking season 8 months ago. And he trusted her because ostensibly the writers planned on her being trustworthy before changing their mind. What, they're going to bring that up now and act it was some grand plan to bring Rene's judgment into question all along? Have I mentioned, fuck you? I have, well then go fuck yourself.
"The Queen's took everything from me, now I'm taking everything from them." - Aren't you like, 5 or 6 years too late for that? I mean, Oliver's lost his fortune, his mother, he was targeted by Prometheus, he went to prison, he's married to Felicity; what more could you possibly do to him at this point?
"Dante wasn't their leader. I am." Dun dun daaaaaaa!
Yeah, bullshit. Are talking about before you killed Dante or after; because before you killed him he was pretty clearly in charge, unless we're to believe that at some point after he started training you as a kid, you eventually took over or rose above him in the organization. In which case, why would ever dress like the Green Arrow to find out who killed your mother if you had that kind of power? What sort of asshole would double cross you by killing your mother if you had that kind of power? And where the fuck have you been the last 7 seasons?
I no sooner believe Oliver killed the guards than any of the others; and at this point I am just going to assume it was Maggie Simpson. She's done it before...
Oh FFS. It was all staged and Dinah was there, eh?
So what, did Roy have a Mirikuru flashback? Eat a dick.
Why the hell didn't they wipe Rene's fingers off the pipe if they were going to cover it up? Also.... I get it, to a degree, but God dammit, this was an elaborate way of pinning the murder on Emiko. And a complete fucking waste of an episode. They could have actually given us some indication that this could happen with Roy; they could have actually built towards Roy flipping out in a more effective way, to make their decision to cover up for him make more sense.
Oh, he went into the Lazarus Pit. Okay, makes a little more sense, but again, could have been laid out in a much better way.
Is Roy getting hit by an arrow ironic? Maybe if these people didn't constantly run up against other archers, but all things considered I can't say it's out of the ordinary for them.
Augh, why is there still 10 minutes left to this episode??
Well, we already know from the flash forward that Oliver survives at least long enough to see his daughter be born; so there's just something about him being in mortal danger that just falls flat for me....
And even then, five minutes in I stepped away to run some errands before it got too
