There was a time when Collingwood vs Carlton was the rivalry that stopped the nation (well the AFL watching part of it anyway), but with Collingwood's fonancisl problems in the 80s and Carlton's complete on and off field collapse in the early 00s the match up has lost a lot of its luster. But yesterday the two ckubs wound back the clock 30 years giving us what was looking like a classic to rabk alongside any of their great matches of the past. That was until the last 5 minutes.
It had been an excellent back and forth match which Carlton appeared to have edged ahead in at the right time when a goal by star recruit Jeremy McGovern put them 87-76 ahead going into the 5 minute warning. Less than a minute later Collingwood had scored 3 goals, including a 70m bomb by Jack Criso and led by 7. They added two more, including one after the siren, just to be sure and ended up winning 106-87.
