Good points. Between this and Derrickson leaving Dr. Strange 2, I thought studios gave these guys a deadline to meet or something? Not a release date but like "hey start filming by this point or don't waste our time." I guess WB thought that since the movie is supposed to be released in the Summer of 2021, they could give Matt Reeves as much time as he supposedly needed. Granted, they obviously had no way of knowing that there would be a global pandemic at this time, but that still doesn’t explain why it took Matt Reeves so long to get the cameras rolling in the first place. He was hired in February 2017, and it took until 2019 for there to be anything resembling concrete news for the movie. That I think is to do with Reeves strong arming DC prior to his Ape's film having mediocre success, at the time he was riding high, everyone expected Apes 3 to be huge, and he walked away from WB when they tried getting him to accept demands, and they supposedly gave him free reign on the film outright, so he wasn't really under pressure to rush out a script, tbh I don't get why anyone thought so highly off him, he had 1 big hit and one good hit and one $5m movie, an he;'s been around for over 20 years at that point, like he is not a prolific film maker, and really he wasn't proven as a successful big budget film maker, WB though as is typical of them were reactionary after their less than well received 2016 outings and gave away the farm and bent over like the sluts they are and Reeves took full advantage the heathen,

I’m still shocked this is getting made. It was in development hell for those crucial first few months after announcement that usually means the movie just sort of fizzles out.
Thankfully, they pulled through and hopefully it can release at least close to the initial release date.
