The Zac Efron version of a Ted Bundy movie seems sort of lackluster at first glance.
- No murder scenes. - No pretrial build up
However, upon returning to this film I realized how brilliant it is. My wife had no knowledge of Ted Bundy pre-viewing this film.
She turns to me during the reading of the verdict and says, "Did he really do it? Did he ever confess?" And it hit me, this film is brilliant.
If you have no prior knowledge of this man and his murders, the film is presented in a way that makes you think he may be innocent. Just like his victims saw him. Then at the end he finally reveals "hacksaw" to his ex-fiance. And they show that murder, letting you know the true man.

I guess it must be a high recommendation. I’ll check it out.

Is it already on Netflix? I heard it was going to be released there.

Watched it yesterday and didn’t love it. I think they wasted Efron’s potential in this role and found it to have a weird dynamic with his portrayal.

They wasted the potential to show him charismatic and charming, then sick and chillingly evil. I would have loved to have seen that switch. For example, have him be sweet and charming to a girl, then the switch happens and show him doing these vile things. However, I respect the directors decision once I understood what they were going for. They wanted the audience member to see Ted the way these women saw him. You can't believe he's guilty, to the point where a person who knows nothing about him is thinking, "Did he really do it?" I just think showing at least ONE scenario where he picks up a girl and turns (maybe at the end). Would have been a huge payoff, like "Ooooooh, that's how evil he was."

I too liked it. And thought the director handled the subject matter really well (instead of showing all the brutal killings Bundy did, he focused a lot more on his court room drama). Efron was quite good in the lead and looked almost uncanny like Bundy . Speaking of Efron , he needs to pursue more dramatic work like this rather than shit like Dirty Grandpa or Baywatch cause I see his potential in dramas.
solid 7/10

They kept it classy by not focusing too much on the murders. Which doesn't necessarily make for the movie everyone wanted. We sometimes forget that the families would find a more graphic film to be very insensitive to them. Watch The Ted Bundy Tapes, also on Netflix for the full horror of this man, it fills in the blanks.

I love how it didn't follow the traditional bio pic narrative. The structure/story is non-traditional, which I really enjoyed. It didn't feel like they were just going from A to Z plot points. Plus Zac Efron's performance was strong.

So I watched it and quite enjoyed it. Thought Efron was phenomenal in the role and I liked how they didn’t make the deaths onscreen to give a flare of mystique to it all.
And you're right about it being great for those that don’t know who Ted Bundy is and are viewing this with fresh eyes.
