I see. I know I am a little late to the party as I have not had much interest in humanism to date. I finally thought I would cath up and see what it is all about.

I can't really see a difference either. Perhaps it is subtle and inconsequential.
Of course, Cash says I was never a secular humanist and have no understanding of what secular humanism is. Funny that, because for all those years I donated to People for the American Way they still cleared my checks every time I sent them.

I'd never heard of non-secular humanism, so as far as I was always aware, the terms were interchangeable. I'm not a big fan of 'humanism', as I prefer a more misanthropic outlook. Humanism strikes me as basically a more palatable, candyfloss variety of atheism.

Wait so the only thing I have to do to be Catholic is to donate to their charities? Check. I donate to the elementary school music program does that make me a musician? I donate to the Elks now I am an elk?

The point is; Why would someone who is definitely not a secular humanist (as Cash claimed about me) shell out money to a group like that?

Hmmm lets see why would someone who is not Catholic and an atheist shell out money to a group like that?
Perhaps they thought the cause was worthy?
His point about you being a secular humanist is like the person who claims to have been an atheist but never really rejected the idea of god.
You appear to be that type.

That's an interesting opinion. Thanks for sharing it.
