Richard Burton in Equus (1977) Great thread. Can we do more than one performer? But, I think I get it--What one performance that sticks out as the best (for you) for a given performer.

Mickey Rooney in The Human Comedy (1943) Of all the many, many movies he made, I don't think he was ever better than he was in THIS movie.

Jessica Lange in Frances (1982) I was not yet a teenager and just starting to really develop my film obsession when I saw this. So real and raw, it began my love for Jessica Lange. She's a two-time Oscar winner but I still feel like people are forgetting about just what a great range she has. She deserved the Oscar for this role (it went to Streep for Sophie's Choice, for which I could equally gush).

Bob Hoskins - Long Good Friday Hoskins was ideal in this role, you can easily understand why Hollywood came calling afterwards.
