What is wrong with answering any of those films when someone asks "Name films you don't like that everybody else does?"

Are you suggesting that it is a stupid answer because EVERYBODY doesn't like those films or are you saying that anybody who doesn't like those films is an idiot?

I have nothing against folks who don’t like popular films, if they’re being legitimate and I think in most cases people are. Everyone has different taste and I’m sure there are no films even close to being liked by everyone.

I just don’t like it when posters act like not liking something popular makes them part of some elite clique. There’s plenty of people who think even the original Star Wars trilogy isn’t that great.

You are right though, I never called anyone an idiot.

The thing is though, if you discount movies like that then it really doesn't leave many options. I think it is fair to say the movies you mentioned are liked by the majority wouldn't you agree? 

The question doesn't mean "literally everyone else."

You seem to also be ignoring the fact that not everyone is aware of how many detractors those movies have, so disliking a user based on your example seems a bit ridiculous.

There's obviously no real answer because yes there's no film that everyone bar "you" is going to like. I just think there are answers that at least to me seem less obviously "invalid". People really think they're the only person who doesn't like Titanic, it just comes off as a little arrogant.

And of course I don't seriously dislike the posters who do this, it just irks me a bit and I posted it half-jokingly in what I thought was an already pretty "jokey" thread.

There is nothing arrogant about naming Titanic to that question imo. If you read between the lines the question is "what is a movie liked by the majority that you dislike?"  I grant you that Titanic and Harry Potter are a lot more divisive than LOTR and Star Wars.

Honestly, it is very rare that I ever hear anybody bad mouth Star Wars OT or LOTR and that is exactly my point - maybe you have just come across more people who dislike these movie than I have.

Obviously the hugely popular movies are going to be discussed more, so it is much easier to gauge the fanbase and you chose 4 of the most seen movies in the history of film. We aren't going to notice if there are as many people who dislike say Apocalypse Now because it isn't discussed as much and hasn't been seen by as broad of an audience as the 4 movies you are talking about.

I guess I see:

Name a popular film you don't like

and

Name a film only you dislike

as different

semantics perhaps or just not understanding what the OP in one of those threads means. I understand there aren't going to be any films that literally no one else dislikes, just films that IMO are less obviously disliked by more than just a few people.

I concede your point and perhaps I'm being pedantic, but that's where I was coming from when I made my first (not entirely serious) post in this thread.
