Started binge watching the show and I love it. In terms of fantasy/sword and sorcery show, I think it's better than Game of Thrones (never got the hype). And there's a lot of Norse elements to it I wish we saw in the Thor films, particularly the design and style. Hopefully we will still get a Thor 4.

I stopped halfway through the first season. Found it dull. Then I heard that it got better. I guess I’ll revisit the show eventually.

Yup. Enjoyed it quite a bit ... though I've found it less compelling after Ragnars sons take center stage in season 5.50

It's on my list - but I was under the impression that it was a straight-up historical drama. There are fantasy and sorcery elements?

I watched the first two seasons and it had nothing that could be described as sorcery or fantasy. But the characters themselves believe in Norse mythology so there are fantastic elements that can be described as the power of suggestion or "witchcraft". I also recommend The Last Kingdom which is basically the story of the English while they try to fend off the Danes that are trying to invade the British Islands. It follows Alfred the Great trying to defeat the invasion led by Ragnar's sons. (Ragnar being the main character of Vikings)

Now that GOT is over, I'm rewatching the first two seasons. I stopped watched Vikings during season 3.

I am a big fan of "The Last Kingdom". I read the first five or six of Bernard Cornwell's book series and I fervently hope they keep the TV show going for a few more years at least.

What don't understand is why they keep insisting in adapting two books per season when they could easily adapt one book per season. At this rate the series will be caught up with the books in no time. Bernard Cornwell isn't like George RR Martin and he can easily release a book per year. I would love for someone to adapt The Warlord Chronicles. His best work IMO.

I love the show. I would call it historical fiction rather than fantasy or sorcery.

The first two seasons are fantastic, then it starts to go downhill. Season five was tedious. As others have mentioned, The Last Kingdom is incredible, probably my favorite show of the last few years. Loved how they handled Alfred, particularly in season 3. Looking forward to season 4 though the loss of Alfred (spoiler for something that happened in 899 AD) will have a significant affect on the show in my opinion.
