Pet Sematary is a good movie but still something of a B-movie which used to happen to Stephen King movies. Nowadays Hollywood has awakened to King's greatness and, especially, popularity and invests in good productions of his stories. King was totally behind this production. He brought it to his home state of Maine, wrote the screenplay, and made a cameo appearance as a minister. While I'll admit it was a "B" film, it was solidly put together. On a 17 million dollar budget, it raked in close to 60 million at the domestic box office. None too shabby for a King film--especially when stuff like Silver Bullet, Maximum Overdrive and Firestarter were ruining the King name. Like I said, it's a good movie.

The sequel is better. Clancy Brown is awesome in that. He was the ONLY good thing about that sham. The acting was good all around. I legitimately felt sorry for Drew's whole family, and I'm pretty indifferent when it comes to most movies.

Very scary movie. Good atmosphere, acting, scares, and the creep factor was very high.

Sometimes, dead is better! I'd be interested to hear your comments about Pet Sematary! No matter how many times I see it - I still cringe with the Mack truck scene..... Underrated flick. Yes, very hard to take.

I remember that flashback scene with the sister I thought of as very creepy. Overall not bad but it's not one I would re-watch any time soon.

Sometimes, dead is better! I'd be interested to hear your comments about Pet Sematary! Just watched it for the first time.....creepy as hell. It's not that any particular scene was very scary...it's that the atmosphere throughout the movie was that of impending doom. I felt very sorry for the girl. Fred Gwynne's acting was superb. His voice is very unique. Overall, I thought the movie was pretty good. But it can make you feel low.

Having read the book, I was firmly disappointed with the movie. I thought it lacked the grim sense of despair and supernatural dread the book crafted so well. Particularly the wonderfully written parts of the novel when Louis steals Gage's body and also his nocturnal wandering in the forest when the nearby presence of the Wendigo is strongly implied.
The almost comedic nature of Pascow in the film also didn't work for me in context with the subject matter. I think his presence needed to be much darker and more foreboding.
It does have some well staged individual moments and I do find it watchable but even if I dismiss all comparisons to the book, for me it is merely adequate at best.
There are probably a dozen King adaptations I would place above it.

this was earlier in the king book to movie adaptations. and the book was okay although in quintessential KING form -- tangent here, thought there.... .
i was happy to see my girl, denise Crosby in this as i loved her as Tasha Yar from star trek TNG but thought she was misplaced or misguided here. she basically was Tasha yar in this. i would have liked to see her be more softer as a mother of two young children.
and the kids... my god. i couldn't wait for them to leave. the boy was that cute form of awkward -- where you don't know if they are cute or just awkward. and that girl was slappable. yeah, as a preschooler she was lacking in an actual upbringing. 'little shit' really? who the hell raised her.
and if you're just gonna sit there while your baby is toddling off towards the street, then you deserve to be without him! they're the little shits.
i'd like to see what the 'remake' has to offer.
