It was a solid adaptation that, for the most part, knew exactly what to keep and what to cut. Good cast, good acting, but boy was Fred Gwynne the standout.

Gwynne was the linchpin that held everything together.

Decent horror film with fine acting from Fred Gwynne and an effectively creepy Brad Greenquist.

I read the book. Gosh, it was padded. I couldn't wait for it to end. I don't recall the film. Sorry.

I can't believe a bucket that continuously spouts nonsense has more posts than me.

I consider it the finest adaptation of a SK novel. Not exactly the same, but very very close to the source material. Intensely haunting and filled with a pervasive sense of dread. An overlooked masterpiece IMO.
My rating: 10/10.

An overlooked masterpiece IMO. My rating: 10/10. Totally. The only truly "good" character in the entire film, outside of the children, is Pascow, the ghost. He does everything he can to warn Louis (Dale Midkiff), but it's like fighting an avalanche. All the major characters are doomed.

Sometimes, dead is better! I'd be interested to hear your comments about Pet Sematary! No matter how many times I see it - I still cringe with the Mack truck scene..... Underrated flick.

I like the film. It is really basic and simple but that makes it fun as well. Love the Ramones doing the title track.

This was the only horror film that scared me. Zelda still gives me nightmares.

The sequel is better. Clancy Brown is awesome in that.

I read the book first so I expected to hate the movie but I was pleased.
@kassa I had no idea Clancy Brown was in the second one and now I will have to add it to my watch list.

Never read the book, finally saw the movie last October. Freaky as hell, so good job there. And can I just say Rachel's bit about the family wanting Zelda to die...it sounds heartless but that is true when you're watching a loved one with a terminal illness waste away, it's hard to say and most people won't admit it but it is true. You don't just want them to die for their suffering to end, but so you don't have to keep seeing what the disease is doing to them. And those effects they did with Zelda were certainly unnerving enough, at Halloween I was carving a pumpkin and I pulled out a whole rope of innards that looked like her spine.

The sequel is better. Clancy Brown is awesome in that. The sequel has that annoying Terminator kid in the lead, not to mention a totally unbelievable and downright ridiculous opening where the mom gets electrocuted. It made me laugh! But worse of all, you could tell this wasn't made in Maine.

Pet Sematary is a good movie but still something of a B-movie which used to happen to Stephen King movies. Nowadays Hollywood has awakened to King's greatness and, especially, popularity and invests in good productions of his stories.

Pet Sematary is a good movie but still something of a B-movie which used to happen to Stephen King movies. Nowadays Hollywood has awakened to King's greatness and, especially, popularity and invests in good productions of his stories. King was totally behind this production. He brought it to his home state of Maine, wrote the screenplay, and made a cameo appearance as a minister. While I'll admit it was a "B" film, it was solidly put together. On a 17 million dollar budget, it raked in close to 60 million at the domestic box office. None too shabby for a King film--especially when stuff like Silver Bullet, Maximum Overdrive and Firestarter were ruining the King name.
