🤔 But they already have:- Bob Paisley major trophies rate > Alex Ferguson major trophies rate Huh? Paisley won 20 trophies. Ferguson won 38. Yeah but you said "highly unlikely that Liverpool will match the rate of trophy of haul under Ferguson." Bob Paisley won all his in 9 seasons. Fergie was there for 26 years (nearly 3 times as long). So going by rate Paisley utterly outclassed Ferguson. e.g:- 6 titles in 9 years (66.67%) Vs 13 in 26 (50%) 4 European trophies (inc 3 European Cups) in 9 years (44.44% !) Vs 3 European trophies (inc 2 European Cups) in 26 years (11.53%)! Not even close talking purely rate of trophy haul... www.theversed.com/53962/bob-paisley-english-footballs-most-successful-manager/#.FQuuqM1Yft

As far as I can see last night's result draws Liverpool level with Man Utd in terms of real trophies won (not counting closed shop add-ons like the charity shield / European Super Cup). I'd still count Man Utd's Cup Winners Cup. Don't think you can count that as a substandard trophy, used to enjoy that back in the pre-Champions League days especially. (Edited July '20 post Liverpool Premier League success) ------------------ Liverpool Premier League 1 First Division 18 Domestic Proper Cups Fa Cup 7 League Cup 8 Europe Proper Cups European Cup 6 UEFA Cup 3 Total = 43. Man Utd Premier league 13 First Division 7 Domestic Proper Cups FA Cup 12 League Cup 5 Europe Proper Cups European Cup 3 UEFA Cup 1 Cup Winners Cup 1 Total = 42. Is the league cup proper? Other countries do not even have it... And some would at least include the intercontinental cups.

I hope Liverpool reaches 50 first. I am mostly indifferent to Liverpool but I dislike Man U a lot.

Is the league cup proper? That's actually a good question! Probably not on the same level these days - e.g. look at Liverpool this year! Mind you we're also at the point were you could ask the same question re the FA Cup... Re the count here though - was excluding "add-on" trophies, i.e. ones where you don't run against a full field, hence the Intercontinental, Super Cup, Charity shield, etc omissions.

As long as we stay ahead with the Leagues/Champions Leagues. The massive ones.Thats all that matters. Not getting big headed like Lamps said the other night. Everybody remain calm and dont get big headed, just stay ahead of that other lot for good.

TWO countries compete but The name is irrelevant. There is one trophy a year awarded to the team left standing at the end. As opposed to: FIFA World Cup FIFA Confederations Cup UEFA European Football Championship Cup UEFA Nations League Cup CAF Africa Cup of Nations Cup CONMEBOL Copa América Cup CONCACAF Gold Cup Asian Cup FIFA Club World Cup UEFA Champions League and Europa league Cup CAF Champions League Cup CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores Cup CONCACAF Champions League Cup Racist Drunkards Federation League Cup White Blokes BREXIT Cup That's only a few of the "major" cups. Then don't ya'll also give cups for each countries various leagues "champion"? Also players can be on several different teams in the same season? I would think it's hard for a player NOT to have been on a Cup winner at some point. Do they have a cup for non cup winners? Also America’s Major Leagues are the best baseball leagues anywhere. Sooner or later, the world’s best baseball players come here (from Korea, Japan, Mexico, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Taiwan, wherever). Ergo, the best team in the major leagues is the best baseball team in the world, just as the best team in the NBA is the best basketball team in the world. Don't think it could have anything to do with over 200 nations competitively playing Football whilst pretty much no one gives a shit about American sports outside of their own self obsessed country? Yeah, go to Japan, south Korea, Taiwan, Cuba, the Dominican Republic and see that they don't give a shit.

🤔 But they already have:- Bob Paisley major trophies rate > Alex Ferguson major trophies rate Huh? Paisley won 20 trophies. Ferguson won 38. True but Paisley was only Liverpool`s manager for 9 years. If i remember correctly Ferguson was Manchester United manager for 26 years. Did Ferguson ever win 20 trophies in a 9 year periode ? Ferguson won 1.4 trophies a year, Paisley won 2.2 trophies a year.

Is the league cup proper? Other countries do not even have it... Was just reminded of this again - PSG won the French League Cup last night. It was the last time they'll play it - it's been scrapped. Turns out that England is now the last of the "big five" nations to still run one. So I guess it's just a matter of time...

Yeah, I guess the preparation (ergo the cash-in tours in Asia and North America) is more important than this league cup...I mean, they always complain about the full schedule.

So Man Utd have the chance to level this tonight.
However, just to get this out there in advance (in case it may look slightly like sour grapes!), should this particular Europa League still count as a "major" trophy given Utd were parachuted into it this year following CL failure?
i.e. is it really a more major success to have failed at the group stage and get a consolation trophy than to reach the CL quarter final say?

So your comfortable with including the 3 Uefa Cups in Liverpool's total but want an asterisk attached to United's if they win the Europa League?
What gives the impression of sour grapes.

Well, like I was saying before Man Utd were parachuted into this after failing in the CL. It's not the same as when Liverpool won UEFA cups as that was the trophy they entered at the beginning of the campaign. I guess it's a question of devaluation. Bit like how we were discussing previously whether League cups should really still stand as "major" wins given the big clubs fielding youth teams these days... Were you in favour of the proposed European Super League?

I take it you don't feel the Champions League has been devalued by letting in runner-up, third place and fourth place finish teams enter the competition. unlike under the old European Cup format where only the Champions of domestic leagues allowed. Of course not, that would still leave Liverpool on four and not six.

Of course not, that would still leave Liverpool on four and not six. Just the four eh? 😉 I take it you're a Man Utd fan given the seeming requirement to shoot back with Liverpool comments? But having a dig at Man Utd wasn't really the point, it's a question of whether it's right to have CL rejects entering a tournament comprising of teams which qualified via league position in the previous season based upon their current season (poor) form... I mean Man Utd won in 2017 having been in it all the way through, so there's no issue there. But personal team involvement aside, don't you think it's a bit of a strange setup?

LOL, so just trolling me eh 😜.
Anyway, justice was served I guess and no change to the tally for this season...
I do wonder though whether Man Utd made more money finishing below Leipzig and then going on to what was (for them) a consolation final than Leipzig, who were put out by a real quality team in their next match?
Surely Leipzig must make more for that one game otherwise you might be better off losing and coming third in your CL group.
