As far as I can see last night's result draws Liverpool level with Man Utd in terms of real trophies won (not counting closed shop add-ons like the charity shield / European Super Cup).
I'd still count Man Utd's Cup Winners Cup. Don't think you can count that as a substandard trophy, used to enjoy that back in the pre-Champions League days especially.
(Edited July '20 post Liverpool Premier League success) (Edited Feb '22 post Liverpool League Cup success) (Edited May '22 post Liverpool FA Cup success) (Edited Feb '23 post Man Utd League Cup success) (Edited Feb '24 post Liverpool League Cup success) ------------------ Liverpool Premier League 1 First Division 18
Domestic Proper Cups Fa Cup 8 League Cup 10
Europe Proper Cups European Cup 6 UEFA Cup 3
Total = 46.
Man Utd Premier league 13 First Division 7
Domestic Proper Cups FA Cup 12 League Cup 6
Europe Proper Cups European Cup 3 UEFA Cup 1 Cup Winners Cup 1
Total = 43.

Think Liverpool having a better European record is the plus point although not winning PL for a long stretch is their minus point.

I see the Cup Winners Cup as being on a par with the UEFA Cup.

I see the Cup Winners Cup as being on a par with the UEFA Cup. I wonder if it was actually seen as being superior back in the day? If you got to the cup final and won or lost to the league champions you'd go into the Cup Winners Cup would you not? Don't think you would / or could elect to go into the EUFA cup instead. So there were good teams in there. Once the Champions League expanded the European cup into multiple teams from each country it pretty much killed it...

Old Chinese proverb say :
一山不容二虎 or 一林不二虎 (Two tigers cannot share one mountain/forest)
All level on 42, eh? For me, and I suspect most of ye, it's Liverpool for the next five years at least. I'll go 47-43 by 2025.

Could see that as well, although it's hard to legislate for how many Man City will hoover up as long as the Arabs don't get bored. Man Utd have lost their way - Sanchez, Pogba, etc, not hungry just after the money. That's where Klopp's got it right - even the big money signings like Van Dijk, Alisson and Fabinho. These guys were all signed on their way up from smaller clubs. Yeah, they'll be on big bucks but they still have their hunger. Man Utd used to sign players like that.

Always wished we got a Cup Winners Cup before they retired it

As I have pointed out several times, soccer truly is the "everyone gets a trophy" game. If it's good enough for every little American kid that was encouraged to try a sport then it's fitting that the rest of the world has adopted that mentality for their adult soccer players. No reason to pout and cry when there are so many trophies and cups handed out everyone gets one, right? Is that why it's called the beautiful game? Everyone is a champion is a beautiful concept albeit not realistic.
Sadly it hasn't helped all the mean spirited issues in soccer. Perhaps europe should create even more cups. Maybe 2 cups for every team, fc, hate group etc... would curb the anger. What y'all think? Would the rampant racism and sexism stop if every team was gifted 2 trophies/cups?

Perhaps we could have a world series where only one country competes, that would be guaranteed to ensure fairness.

Perhaps we could have a world series where only one country competes, that would be guaranteed to ensure fairness. TWO countries compete but The name is irrelevant. There is one trophy a year awarded to the team left standing at the end. As opposed to: FIFA World Cup FIFA Confederations Cup UEFA European Football Championship Cup UEFA Nations League Cup CAF Africa Cup of Nations Cup CONMEBOL Copa América Cup CONCACAF Gold Cup Asian Cup FIFA Club World Cup UEFA Champions League and Europa league Cup CAF Champions League Cup CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores Cup CONCACAF Champions League Cup Racist Drunkards Federation League Cup White Blokes BREXIT Cup That's only a few of the "major" cups. Then don't ya'll also give cups for each countries various leagues "champion"? Also players can be on several different teams in the same season? I would think it's hard for a player NOT to have been on a Cup winner at some point. Do they have a cup for non cup winners? Also America’s Major Leagues are the best baseball leagues anywhere. Sooner or later, the world’s best baseball players come here (from Korea, Japan, Mexico, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Taiwan, wherever). Ergo, the best team in the major leagues is the best baseball team in the world, just as the best team in the NBA is the best basketball team in the world.

Don't think it could have anything to do with over 200 nations competitively playing Football whilst pretty much no one gives a shit about American sports outside of their own self obsessed country?

Some of these trophies are for national teams (literally a foreign concept I guess when your club side equivalent franchises can be "World Champions" 🤔), aren't on annual basis, aren't available to all national or club sides... Plus to run the obvious counter to this - how is it to become American sports champions when you don't actually have to be the Champions? Finished 5th / 6th? No worries come and have a second chance at being "champions" via the play offs! Boo boo, you were the worst team? Don't cry - here you can have first pick of the best players next year just to try to keep it all even and fair. Don't worry you'll get your shot at being a winner...

If you include the FA Community Shield, Manchester United have 63 trophies and Liverpool 57 trophies Mickey Mouse trophy. Yup - Community shield is a pre-season friendly, not an open competition so you can't really include that. Same goes for the recent World Club Club and previous name versions of that, and the European Super Cup. Actually a good page listing showing all the English sides here:- talksport.com/football/550782/most-trophies-england-liverpool-european-cup/Funny to see Villa still rank above Man City!

That's good but it's highly unlikely that Liverpool will match the rate of trophy of haul under Ferguson.
