You need to cut back on the cheese consumption. R.E.M. was a groundbreaking band with numerous brilliant albums. If it wasn't for R.E.M. there would have been no Violent Femmes and the Femmes are the only decent band to come out of Wisconsin.
Beatles are awesome too tho. Do you whine about The Sex Pistols too? They hated The Beatles and Pink Floyd etc...

I like both to a degree, I prefer R.E.M. I like the mysterious/abstract/off-center nature of their sound, at least up to and including Green. During that time they were arguably the quintessential US indie/college band. How much that means to you is of course another discussion.

Die Kreuzen are pretty damn good too. How about these guys? OK, I guess. Never heard of 'em before. I'd also add noise rock pioneers Killdozer and maybe the Tar Babies, a Madison hardcore band that found a home on SST Records back in the late 80s.

Good old SST where so many great bands got their start. Soundgarden, Meat Puppets, Dinosaur Jr etc... I had never heard of Zombeatles before this thread either. Not great but I did go listen to some of the Beatles songs they massacre after listening to their versions. I remember Killdozer but must not have been a fan as I have none of their music. Gave Die Kreuzen a listen after your post. Like the music a good bit but iffy on the singer. I'll try some more of their songs.
