Western media was "soft on socialism" as Yuri Bezmenov liked to put it.
It's amazing looking at Hollywood movies from the 60s how favorable they were to the USSR.
Never depicted them as bad or evil-it was always western governments that were the bad ones.
I think that policy attitude was true in news organizations as well.
They could have been more critical of the USSR-as with that serial killer case where the public wasn't even told to be careful.
The western media is two-faced about China. On one hand they do support China's economic takeover of the West with enthusiasm, but they will show false sympathy for the population (or those under Chinese rule like Tibet) but it's not genuine concern.
