They didnt give Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, etc. their own movies, but they're going to give Shang Chi his own movie? A character that is far less popular and far less interesting? Even I smell virtue signaling, and I'm a liberal social justice warrior!
Ultimately he fights Kung Fu. That's it! He's not even really a super hero! Nor do any of his stories really dove tail into any of the great Marvel stories or other heroes stories. They're literally going to have to make something up from whole clothe to make this work.
I liked this movie better when it was any of the Bruce Lee movies you can get on DVD!
Meanwhile there's tons of other cool characters they could make movies of: Any of the above mentioned would have made for good movies, then there's Namor, Moon Knight, She Hulk, Nova, The New Warriors, Alpha Flight, and even Agents of Atlas which is a team led by an Asian man, a secret agent type.
Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against Shang Chi. His 70's series was pretty cool. But he's the type of character who should be TV show, not a major motion picture. Isn't it pretty common knowledge they can't touch the Netflix characters for 2 yrs? Actually I did not know that. If that's true then its particularly dumb of them to cancel those shows. They could have gotten another two seasons out of them even if the ratings weren't stellar. I particularly love the Daredevil show.

I don't think popularity has much to do with it. They made a Guardians of the Galaxy movie years before Doctor Strange and Black Panther after all. They're making an Eternals movie and I've never heard of them. I know very little about Shang Chi but I'm sure they'll make something out of it. That is true. But at least with Guardians and Eternals there's a lot of "meat" to work with. Those characters all have rich stories. Shang Chi really is a guy who just does Kung Fu. His story is not that meaty, which is part of the reason why you haven't heard of him.

And yeah they can't touch the characters for 2 years now. Why not introduce Shang-Chi in the meantime, they'll be able to tell some great martial arts stories together once they get Iron Fist back.

It was Netflix that decided to cancel not Disney and yeah Disney can't touch any of the Defender's IP until 2 years after them Airing. This is from a Forbes Article on it:

Look up Shang-Chi's abilities. He's more than just hand to hand fighting. He's a master of chi and can create unlimited duplicates of himself. And then you have dodging all kinds of bullet fire (even long range). There's a lot to him that can be good spectacle in fight scenes that we haven't seen before.

They didn't Netflix did, they made a big song and dance about how Disney couldn't pull the shows only Netflix could, and also not really, if Disney are launching their streaming service with Marvel being one of their big draws to the service it undermines the need if Netflix are also producing 5...4 other top tier quality Marvel show and Iron Fist. Also the longer the shows went on the longer Disney would need to wait to make new shows, as it stands now Iron Fist will be free to use Sept of 2020 less than a year after Disney + launches, Luke Cage even sooner in June of 2020, Daredevil Oct and so on, makes more sense to run out the clock when you don't have your own service up and running.

But those are all abilities given to him in more recent years to have him able to compete in true super hero stories. IMO they're bs and ruin the character. He should remain true to his origins in which he would be more along the lines of spy.

So you're saying Multiple Man, multiplied hundreds of times, each doing Kung Fu, is something you want to see? And I think it would be the height of camp.

How so? Just make the original the OP one. Have all the duplicates be easily "poppable." Or just imagine this scene, but the two younger cops are Shang-Chi.
But at the same time there are half a dozen more fights (all Shang-Chi) going on. Then you add in him (the main one) using chi to "Spidey sense" dodge weapons and bullets. Maybe using it for knock backs. You also put in that only the main one can use chi. Or that all the dupes are made from him using chi.
