It’s hardly a secret that the continuity and timelines of the X-Men film series is one giant mess. Post-Origins, it’s almost impossible to go a single film without running into some kind of inconsistency. Trying to rationalize how each of these movies fit with one another is a fool’s errand at this point.
With that being said, I’ll admit that for a while, I was one of the people who tried to come up with excuses as to how these movies potentially didn’t contradict one another. It wasn’t really until after Apocalypse that I more or less completely gave up on trying to make sense of the timelines of these films.
What about everyone else?

There are mistakes in every film series.

I never really stopped justifying but I really started to hate the fact I had too around The Wolverine/DoFP.

Same. It's utterly nonsensically after of all things, The Last Stand.

The inconsistencies started when Fox couldn't decide how to proceed with the franchise after the double-whammy of The Last Stand and Origins Wolverine.
They couldn't decide between a prequel and a reboot with First Class, which was originally developed as a Magneto Origins film. Had it been a complete reboot, things might have been fine. But with Fox and their limited creativity, lack of forethought and tendency for shortsightedness, they just couldn't bear the thought of cutting those ties from the original films and the possibility of losing Hugh Jackman who was the star of the franchise and still willing to play the character at the time. So we ended up with a mess with a few unintentional/accidental gems (Logan, Deadpool) along the way.

Never. There are no errors. It's all here: x-continuity.blogspot.com"First Class" is a big divergence --- or an alternate universe. As simple as that. "Origins" has some tiny incongruences with the original trilogy; nothing you cannot fix anyway.

I checked out somewhere in between X-Men: Days of Future Past and X-Men: Apocalypse.
Once you need an alternate universe, that is never openly acknowledged in continuity to explain your timeline, you've more or less failed.
But bluntly, Fox never tried to explain it so, why the fuck should I?

X-men Origins I just saw as a bad movie and dismissed it. First Class was suppose to be a reboot, so dismissed it. DoFP was when "Okay WTF?!" came into play. So I guess First Class was the last time I rationalized things.
