And today, the medium of radio itself may be dying. iHeartMedia, the number one radio company in the U.S., declared bankruptcy in 2018 and emerged from Chapter 11 in May, but with $5.75 billion of debt still on its books. Cumulus Media, the number two radio company, went bankrupt in 2017, and completed bankruptcy restructuring in 2018. Even so, they emerged from Chapter 11 with $1.30 billion of debt, and lost $5 million in the first quarter of 2018. Furthermore, a study released in 2017 suggests that traditional radio could be dead in ten years. The study also notes that, "Younger music listeners have increasingly turned to sites like YouTube to discover new artists and songs."
