Watched this for a second time several hours ago and for some odd reason it does not feel like it’s trying to get to the next scenes as soon as possible as it was for the first showing. I just can’t explain it and that made me enjoy the movie more.
That said, the storyline still could have used more development. I bump it up from from a 5/10 to a 6/10.

A friend of mine who is a diehard Fox-Men fan saw DP again and walked out before the second act concluded. I was actually hoping he'd like it more the second time around for his own sake... Disney is snatching half of DP's theaters for Toy Story 4... This was all very avoidable.

The only reason I saw it for a second time is because I’ve found that many people like it more on another watch.

Assuming that I'm not putting words in his mouth, from what I gathered, he just couldn't get over how poorly Mystique's death was handled. She's his favorite Fox X-Men character. He also thought all of the emotional beats felt forced and fake throughout the film. He thought Sophie Turner was horrible in DP but, he loves her on GoT. I feel exactly the opposite of that. If I were to guess, I think he thought the pacing was too quick and uneven if anything. I could agree with him there as I felt like events just kept happening without much buildup or lead-in. I felt terrible for him because he had to go to the theater alone for the second viewing, none of our usual set accepted his invitation to join him (on his dime). He honestly thought that despite the endless production problems, Dark Phoenix would be a hit which would force Disney/Fox to prolong the franchise.

I wouldn't completely rule out the (as yet unsubstantiated) idea that Disney engineered the downfall of this film. That said, it's not like Fox made it hard for them. The film’s overall fair-to-poor quality saw to that. I'm obviously not a hardcore fan of this series but, I was hoping it would go out on a more dignified (if not wholly positive) note at least. Disney didn't disrupt their process. They didn't cut the reshoots, and they didn't shelf DP or send it to streaming. This was Fox's game to lose and, they lost it big time.

That is not the case at all. I’ve been reading up on a lot about what went on behind the scenes and I can safely say that Disney cared far more about this movie than Fox did. I’m going to make a thread on it soon with plenty of sources.
