Over.
The MCU has reached a point where even an average movie about a not well known character (Captain Marvel) can surpass one billion dollars. Spiderman: Far from Home has much more going for it.
Spiderman, himself. Arguably the most popular superhero who hasn't been severely damaged by the recent DC dumpster fire, like Batman and Superman. People love the Tom Holland Spiderman!
Great reviews. Currently sitting at 91% on RT. We know going in that it will be a top notch movie.
A sort of sequel to the massively successful Endgame. The ramifications of Endgame left us with an intriguing aftermath in the MCU universe. Audiences will want to know how our favorite characters deal with this new world.
Spiderman: Homecoming is considered to be the best of all the live action Spiderman movies. It made nearly $900 million. Far from Home will build upon that success and cruise past one billion, easily.

Under. Because the MCU is doomed.

I went under only because summer movie season already feels played out by mid June, there's countless options to see at the same time, & some potential CBM fatigue. I already know I'm wrong because overseas.
Personally, I plan to see it solely for its post-Endgame epilogue of sorts. Homecoming didn't do a lot for me, still a lone viewing.

Over, the last one was the 2nd highest grossing movie of all the Spidey films, tom Holland and this version of Spider-Man is now far more established and popular, it's coming off the back of Endgame which the marketing has made you very aware of, the MCU is on a roll as is Sony's own Spiderverse projects, plus it's already made almost $600m in it's first week and the only competition it has for the next month is Lion King which is 2 weeks away, another $400m seems like an easy accomplishment at this point.

Apparently if it doesn’t make a billion full control reverts back to Sony and the MCU deal is done. Allegedly.

I could see them not renegotiating and thinking they can piggyback off the MCUs success with Spider-Man while not sharing the profits with Disney and immediately putting Tom Hardy as Venom in the next Spider-Man film thinking that’s all they need for it to be a mega hit.

Even at Half a billion, or less, SONY are on to a winner with the deal they had. From what I understand, if FFH were to fail to hit a billion dollars, the deal to have Spider-Man be part of the MCU would technically still be in effect, but Sony would be the ones calling the shots for third movie instead of Marvel. I imagine they probably would’ve used that as an opportunity to have Tom Holland’s Spider-Man interact with Tom Hardy’s Venom. Still, this movie making a billion dollars seems like a safe bet.

From what I understood Sony don't share profits with Marvel on the Spider-Man films, they actually negotiated full movie revenue rights back before TASM1 or 2 came out, in exchange Marvel has full rights to Spidey merch and animated TV shows, what Sony does again from what I understood is they pay Marvel a production fee to make their Spidey films and as a result Spidey whilst produced by the MCU lives in the MCU and so we get Fury, Happy, Tony, Cap and ect popping up, which benefits Sony because that fee is included in the budget and the MCU Spidey films are the least expensive of the Spidey films with the exception of the first one, so paying Marvel to make their films shouldn't be an issue, Sony still pockets all the cash from the films box office and thanks to Marvel they spent less money to make the films.
If Sony took the rights back to make a Spidey/Venom movie it would be just like BVS, overbudgeted, unwarranted, financially disappointing, it would probably make money but nowhere near what Sony would want or expect, and then they would have blown their load.

They can't be that stupid. They have ridden the character into the ground twice. They have to see this is a win for them.
