I didn't have any expectations from this movie and it's a good thing because the movie was just dumb but fun too.
The scenery is beautiful and Kong himself looks pretty decent, if only a bit too human-like. That's about the only good things I can say about the movie.
There was little or no character development at all. Apart from John C. Reilly, we don't really learn (or care) about the others. They were just there to be food for the monsters. I don't even know why the Asian girl was thrown in the mix. She didn't do anything. I guess it is for the Chinese audience's benefit. I'm sure the posters of Kong in China will have her picture as big as Kong's! LOL!
How many times is Samuel L Jackson going to play the same cliched characters? I'm getting really tired of the crazy, killing-obsessed colonels in movies.
The lizard things were badly designed. Didn't look the least bit intimidating. I was expecting the big one to be ever scarier but it was pretty much identical to the smaller ones.
The climactic fight was really stretched out a lot. To the point where I was waiting for it to be over. It wasn't exciting either.
Not the worst movie I've seen but not them most memorable one either.

The Asian actress is Jing Tian. Sh is getting a lot of major roles in these big budget movies because she's sleeping with a bigwig in the Chinese film industry. Interestingly enough that information was removed from Wikipedia some time ago.

This movie didn't really have a story. It was more like a Godzilla where you see him appear and defeat monsters. I agree with your statement on Samuel L Jackson, it's too much of the same. One thing I may have missed is why or how did John C Riley character learn french ? Because when it's time to leave, towards the ending, he says something similar to "we must go Tout de suite" . Yet I wonder where it came from .
