We may have already seen "peak" Netflix in my opinion. Especially with Disney, WB, and others offering their own streaming services.

you aren't wrong, but this also comes back to questionable project choices too, not like The Get Down or Polo were any good at all.

Or just FEWER projects. Then maybe they could give each project the budget it needs, which in turn might make them... good?

"Future Netflix originals will be greenlit based on their ability to bring in large number of viewers and not strictly for critical appraisal or earning Netflix industry or awards credibility."
^I found this interesting. I wonder if that means less "woke" BS from Netflix.

Well that didn't last long. They just acquired a Dwayne Johnson movie called Red Notice which is estimated to cost $125M. But a Rock movie on Netflix? That's strange.

Triple Frontier cost $115 million?! wow (probably for the salaries for the main cast cause it sure didn't look like a film that cost over $100 million). Keep in mind, I dug it.

I'm skeptical of this article. No way is that director making 10+ million dollars unless all directors are making that now. In any event, a Rock movie would do what they are setting out to do.

I kind of actually prefer Netflix to approach lesser known directors and actors and actresses in their films and shows. I don’t really have interest in wide release Dwayne Johnson movies let alone Netflix ones.

It's too bad, because for a minute there were some exciting (if not always well-executed) low budget films that got a boost from Netflix.
And, while it's easy to point out bloated flops (I like Sandler, but "Murder Mystery" outstayed its welcome an hour in), there was some quality content they made. Hell, Sandler's "Borowitz Stories" where he stars opposite Dustin Hoffman, is one of the best adult comedies I've seen in a quite a bit...and was a Netflix original.
They've done great for standup comedy and low budget up-and-comers, but sadly that seems to be on the decline. If any of you are, like me, watching how this whole streaming thing is playing out, the new keyword is "Cable 2.0". We complained for years about wanting a la carte cable programming, and now we're seeing it. Every network wants eight bucks a month. Before long, I'll be back to paying what I was for cable.
It is ultimately pretty sad though, because backing from companies like Netflix really helped launching some things that may have not otherwise got off the ground. "Trailer Park Boys" for example, while successful on its own, had a huge surge in popularity due to Netflix (in the States at least) and led to the creators being able to work on new content. Hell, I bet there are over 10,000,000 people on this planet who would not know the name 'Michael Scott' had they not been able to binge "The Office" on Netflix, rather than catch it on NBC.
We had a nice little creative resurgence there for a second. I hope the guys with the money don't fvck it up.
