For the first time in my adult life, I'm proud of Hollywood.

Good luck to her. Also, she ought to get off social media. Fast.

What, they can't hire any writers to come up with a story about a black mermaid?
I honestly don't blame people for being upset about this.
When I was growing up, Beauty and the Beast was my Disney animated film. And that live action remake sucked but at least they tried to make it faithful to the original.

People need to make up their minds as to whether they want the same thing or something different with these Disney remakes. Seems they change their mind on a whim. With this film, they are at least doing something different as far as casting goes. I'm leery about it. But I'll wait and see how she does first. That seems fair.

But The Little Mermaid is a white redhead. I mean that's what people think of.
If it had failed as that, then I might understand changing the character but it didn't. It is a classic.

Since Disney is hellbeant on doing a remake or a version of all their old movie classics, It will be interesting How they will handle Song of the South, mayve they get Dwayne Johnson to warble Zip-e-doodah

Audiences can be like the Pavlov dogs or trained seals when it comes to these Disney unnecessary remakes.

My question is will anyone remember these films 20 or 30 years from now? I doubt it, while the original animated features will continue to be recognized for years beyond that.

Mermaids are most likely white/pale skinned because they don't see the sun that much from the bottom of the ocean.

Mermaids aren't real. Neither was Ariel. Let it go. White people don't have to get all the lead parts. There's still plenty for them.

I think this movie will be another social media shit show like most reboots. A lot of flaming going on, the movie pulls in the usual box office then things quiet down after 3-4 months as everybody's attention moves onto the next reboot to fight over.
Probably won't hear about this movie in 3-5 years. Just another Hollywood waste of imagination.

That's fine. There's no obligation. I doubt I'll watch it either. But I'm sure plenty of people will enjoy it. It's too bad you hate giving people of color jobs in the entertainment industry. They're allowed to be in movies, you know.
