Phantom punch, phantom death. We'll never know the truth of it, and maybe it's better that way. Mob, overdose, heart attack? Given his circumstances, any explanation is as likely as the next. Though the article points out mob hits are usually meant to send a message, the whole point of killing him from their perspective was to cut off a loose end they didn't want to be connected to. All we have is conjecture. Everyone loves a conspiracy more than Occam's razor, so the truth is up to you.

Poor guy seemed doomed. Anyone else find it disgustingly "coincidental" that a priest in prison steered him into boxing and then he just happened to become a pawn for the mafia? How many Catholics were there in 1950's Missouri and the state prison just happens to have a Catholic priest boxing coach? I wonder what the mob gave Father Stevens to steer poor Liston to them? A case of wine and 3 pre teens boys maybe?
