I so often hear people say something like, "I like the first two, and I hate the rest". As someone who likes all the movies except Genisys, I was wondering how many other people like at least some of the non-Cameron films, and which ones.

I like T3, and (to a degree) Genisys. Salvation was also not terrible.

I liked the 3 of them. Not love like the first 2 of course but they entertained enough, even that last one, but the dumb helicopters flying around and bus flip were laughable and the last fight, yeah that one was shit. Truly hope this upcoming one is the 3rd best amongst viewers but after all these years and false promises I'm not expecting a classic

I think the problem is that many people overpraise the first two movies and the hype is so built-up in their mind that if there is any drop in quality, which it's almost inevitable that it will once someones expectations are sky high, they act like they dropped off a cliff and they are clearly not THAT bad. because at the end of the day I think all of the Terminator movies are worth re-watching besides T4 (i.e. Terminator Salvation (2009)). I tend to think the first two movies are overpraised and the 3rd/5th are not given enough credit. T4 is the clear weak link to the series, but even that one is not that bad, just forgettable as it's not worth re-watching. for the record... I think James Cameron is overrated as outside of T2 nothing else he directed stands out. I just re-watched the 1st/2nd/3rd/5th movies here in July 2019 and to bottom line the series, I rank/rate them like this... 1.Terminator 2 (1991) - 7/10 2.Terminator 3 (2003) - 6.5-7/10 3.Terminator Genisys (2015) - 6-6.5/10 4.The Terminator (1984) - 6/10 5.Terminator Salvation (2009) - 5/10 (Thumbs Down) so I like 4 out of the 5 movies. p.s. things changed around a bit for me since my previous re-watch in July 2016... T1 took a solid hit (i.e. 9/10 to a 6/10) and T2 went back up a bit for me (i.e. 6/10 to a 7/10) and T3 dropped off (i.e. 8/10 to a 6.5-7/10) and T5 held steady. with T3 I think it's at it's best from around the half way point on forward and finishes well (the earlier half or so my interest in it is more unstable) but I think T2 is a bit more consistent from start to finish which is why I am giving it the slight edge. I wonder what the hell I used to see in T1 overall as while I still mildly like it, it's nothing special anymore as I would say only two, maybe three, of the movies are worth mentioning. with all I said above out of the way... I feel what you said here seems to apply to many movies for some people as some people tend to exaggerate how good or bad movies are and I think it's especially true in that quotes sense in that if some movies are generally praised, sequels after the praised movies tend to get overly dissed. MrFuriousYeah, I think some of it is because of the cast in why what you said could make it potentially the 3rd best of the series for many with the core in it... Arnold/Hamilton/Furlong and it appears to be a direct sequel to T1/T2, like the others never happened. but it seems like without Cameron directing I suspect that will help limit the hype for many to keep their expectations more reasonable. but for me personally... I think there is a good chance ill like the new Terminator movie but I am not expecting to give it more than a 6/10, maybe a 6-6.5/10 at the most, as given my impression of it from the trailer a while ago... there is a reasonable chance ill like it overall but at times during the trailer it seems a bit generic etc. but at the end of the day... I think my expectations for it are about where it will ultimately end up for me as once you have seen plenty of movies you can usually gauge about how a movie will turn out prior to seeing it even though once in a while I will over or underestimate a movie, but that does not happen much. but I like when I underestimate movies as I would say I typically underestimate them more than overestimate them as I think when someone is younger and has seen quite a bit less movies they tend to be more disappointed fairly often because they buy into a movies hype and expect TOO much from it which at that point they will almost inevitably be disappointed.

I like parts of them. Rise of the Machines has of course Arnold, that awesome as fuck truck chase, and the end scene. It's the most rewatchable of the later sequels. Salvation has Bale and Worthington who I thought played well off each other, another cool truck chase, and it's not set in the past for once. Still kind of lame. Genisys had almost nothing that I remember enjoying or liking. Maybe just Schwarzenegger.

I like T3. I personally think that it gets too much hate. To me, it at least kept some of the elements of what a Terminator movie is supposed to be like and wrapped the story up nicely.
