My newest musical favorite is another singer who is no longer here and so of course I have cried for him especially with his story having the ending that it has.
God bless you always!!!
Holly
P.S. The late beautiful precious shot himself on June 10, 1998...I pray that the Lord forgave him, I love him so much...

Ok I'll stop now before my masculinity starts coming into question. But then again I'll probably think of another one later on

Ok I'll stop now before my masculinity starts coming into question. But then again I'll probably think of another one later on Oh no jayhn1111 there's absolutely nothing wrong with appreciating these classic hits of the times - really ! IMPO - definitely has nothing to do with masculinity it's just pure audio artistic expression that we all here do really enjoy & remember . I most certainly welcome any more you ( or any one else here ) will remember to put up here later on too . I may even come up with some more memorable songs myself also . Again jayhn1111 excellent song selections here too .

Ace - How LongAlso here was another memorable fave of mine IMPO - that represented a time that truly was historical and had a lot of artistic expression as well ( which also inspired me to discover musician - Brubeck too ) . Donald Fagen - New Frontier (Video)

I may push the boundaries even further on my next post.

Here is the info on musician Dave Brubeck . Also here is his very well known song Take Five . This song was also featured in a few movies & TV Shows such as Pleasantville 1998 and currently from Twin Peaks 2017 episode 4 .

1. Dear Ivan by Jimmy Dean.
I don't know how I became reacquainted with the song, but I'm glad I did!
My parents have the 45, and I used to listen to it all the time. It was probably because I liked the music.
It wasn't until about a couple of months ago that I actually understood the lyrics. It was an open letter to a farmer in the USSR. He and Jimmy had similar backgrounds. This song was released in the height of the Cold War.
It isn't until Jimmy talks about Ivan saying a prayer for he and his family, and Jimmy doing the same for Ivan...that got to me.
When the song ends, the final words are "Yours truly, Jimmy Dean, U.S.A." Before I listen to another song, I have to take a minute.
2. Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas by "Traditional".
When it gets to the lyrics, "Through the years, we all will be together"...that gets to me. I mean, I lost my mother, my grandmother and my grandfather all in a span just under 5 years. As well, the year after my grandfather passed, I became an uncle to my brother's twin babies. Problem is -- they are 6 hours away by car. So, I don't get to see them as often as I would like to.

I agree Kate Bush's music was wonderful
but always such a heart breaker too
Kate Bush - Wuthering Heights - Official Music Video - Version 1
It's somewhat odd, and I may not have really known what she was singing when I heard it for the very first time, but I'm not ashamed to say that I kind of love that song (and can listen to it repeatedly). I think I even posted a video for it in the 70's thread.
While I think I prefer the video with her dancing in red among the trees and disappearing/reappearing whilst swaying somewhat creepily at the end, I'll admit she's doing some great facial expressions (and eye work) in the video you posted. I think they're both good.

I remember it first and foremost from "The Simpsons". Lisa was in a jazz band with some of her classmates. IIRC, Milhouse was in the band.
They played that song, and I also thought it was catchy!
So, I rewound it to a few seconds before the song started, and turned on the closed captioning. This was in hopes that they would show the song that they were playing.
They did! It was then when I found out it was "Take Five".

Oh that's cool I didn't know that. That couldn't have been where I heard it because I've only seen a limited amount of Simpsons episodes. Maybe I remembered it from Pleasantville. Although I barely remember the movie much less the songs in it. lol
