and what do you think happened at the end as well?
I am not a big fan at all of FF horrors (I like maybe four of them), but this one is truly special and well made.
I found the english dub on this Extremely annoying. The Norwegien lang.w English subtitles is so much better and the subtitles are much more accurate and give more info than the dubbing track.
Probably the best things going for it are the beautiful Norway locations and scenery and the excellent digital special effects. I actually thought the Mountain Kings in the mine might have been practical fx. Unlike a lot of CGI creatures all of these trolls really seem like they are "there" and have a physical weight and substance to them.
Also the trolls are portrayed as somewhat sympathetic. They are just another animal in nature, but not very intelligent and with a voracious appetite.
But they usually do not prey on humans unless they stray out of there territory (livestock and rubber tires is another matter) and they only do that if they are sick or something is riling/scaring them. They have babies that need their mother to take care of them for awhile until they can crawl and walk.
Having said that, the 200 foot tall Jotnar would be terrifying to encounter.
Gotta say I really want to vusit Norway before I die. The lakes, mountains and many waterfalls and woods..so beautiful and that is scenery just from the road; its not like the waterfalls and woods are remote and inaccesable. Norway looks like a pretty pristine place for nature lovers, but it coexists right beside family farms and small villages. Very old world feel to it all.
Hans the trollhunter is an extremely interesting character, but for the most part remains a mystery. He is very good at his job and was a former Navy ranger. We get a glimpse of his torso covered in twisted scars from his battles wirh trolls and we learn he has been hunting trolls for the govt. since the 70s.
Also his Land Rover is one fucking mean machine!! So badass especially when he tricks it out for hunting the Jotnar.
The nod to the three billy goats gruff was much appreciated. I also just really liked the knowing smile Thomas gave the camera after Hans and Hilde the vet hugged before Hans headed out again.
In the special features I found out the armor Hans wears to fight the bridge troll, that those weren't bombs on the suit but powerful flashlight grenades.
Anyway, what do you think happened at the end?
Of coarse Kalle's body wasn't found in the mine, the Mountain Kings surely ate it. Sadly, Finn probably had Thomas, Johanna and Malica killed to silence them.
My theory is Thomas gave the magnetic film tapes to the seismologist, and Finn didn't bother to search him and the seismologist leaked them. Or maybe Thomas managed to give them to the driver of the semi that I at first kind if thought ran him over.
As for Hans, after successfully defeating the rabid Jotnar he just turns and starts walking AWAY from the direction of the highway, walking. towards the mountain.
I can only figure he walked off to die in the freezing moutain range. He told the students earlier that he was tired of the shit job with little pay; once he stopped the Jotnar from infecting all the other trolls and scaring them running out of their territories and closer and closer to human habitats, he saw his responsibilities as completed.
He was probably tired if dealing with Finn covering stuff up (and his incompetence; a bear walking crosslegged lol) and he felt he was due rest at last.
He knew the tapes would expose the existence of trolls and maybe make the job benefts and stuff better for the next generation of trollhunter.
I don't think the govt. got another hunter though, at the time the press conference about the power line pylons, because the one guy says " Norway has a troll problem" and then Finn's reaction.. haha.
I also like how in depth and serious the film created its own troll behavior, variations within the species and stuff.
