It is extraordinary. The carrot is normally more effective than the stick. Why didn't they just offer $250 to 4 passengers willing to get off? Would have cost them $1,000, instead 3% has been wiped off the value of their company. And I hope that guy sues them for assault, and the other passengers sue them for the 'emotional distress' this has caused them.

Everyone was offered $800 and a free hotel room I think, but there were no takers.

Why would anyone ever want to fly with United again after this? It just shows how America has become, corporations and the top 1% treat everyone else like slaves because of the GOP.

I'll start by saying I hate United. Had a bad experience with them 5 years ago, still pissed at them for it. Being overbooked obviously wasn't the guy's fault and there's no excuse for them to drag him out like that.
That being said, I'm pretty sure they didn't just walk up to the guy without a word and drag him out of his seat. They told him, and he said no. What did he think was going to happen? "Alright sir, you can stay on, have a good day?" And if you notice, as soon as they put their hands on him, he's screaming like he's been shot. He did that because he knew people were recording him.

Flying on any airline at any airport is an ordeal even when things go smoothly. I would never volunteer in one of those situations because I would have no confidence that me and my luggage would end up where they are supposed to go. Airlines are like cable providers or cell phone carriers. They all suck and will eventually screw you over in some way, and when you switch, that next one will screw you too. Airlines need to to fix their over boarding practices and bump their incentives. Otherwise fuck them.
