Melvin X(Bishop Williams) was the cofounder and president of UCLA’s Black Student Union(BSU) during the end of the 1960s. He was born in Texas, moved to CA as a child and later to Los Angeles, CA when he was 11yrs old. He was active with several civil rights organizations and was known for his revolutionary street writings. The goal of the BSU was to eliminate racist elements from UCLA’s campus. On 06/07/1970 Melvin X was found murdered at the age of 22yrs, execution style near Mira Loma, CA(near the San Bernardino Hwy & Etiwanda Ave). He was located on an abandoned farm in the driver’s seat of a—borrowed—car with 2 gunshot wounds to the head(one from the front & one from the rear), the shots were close range and the murder or murders were inside the car with him. The car belonged to another UCLA student named Elaine Parker, they were going to a wedding party and he had borrowed the car on 06/06/1970 to drive home and change his clothes before the party, he never returned. Local papers called it a gang style killing and that was clearly the direction LE followed. Marion Alexander Gay was arrested for the murder but later cleared by a polygraph test. Two other guys also passed polygraph tests as well and LE received no information from performing the tests. The murder has since gone cold and to this date no other suspects have been named. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melvin_X This case has really stuck with me and I’m surprised that I haven’t seen it here before. I have a lot of issues with this case as well and I feel like the atmosphere of the civil rights movement, stereotyping, bad detective work, race, and people not willing to talk all played a role in why this case went unsolved. I personally feel that he deserved better than that and that he still does. He was said to have integrity and courage, now the question is does LE have the integrity and courage to take a new look at the case and right the wrongs of past detectives. Also, I can’t help but think that either E. Parker or someone else from the wedding party knows more than they’re saying they do or might’ve even been involved. Edit: This is my first post on this sub, so I apologize if I left anything out, never had to write this much for a post before.
