Pianist Little Richard was in flux in the late 1960s. It was believed he was keen to return to composing secular songs when he signed with Reprise Records in 1970. The label's management were keen to exploit his abilities as a concert pianist but they caught the wild man of rock in a peculiar phase of his mental development. This led to several difficult years of writing, recording, negotiating and sculpting. One of the four records he produced during these years was shelved and later assembled for release by Rhino Records. At once immediate, often personal, these are albums that display Little Richard's bizarre imagination and musical virtuosity as he melds funk, gospel, country, opera and everything in between.
