there should be thread about films rejected by BRANDO: BEN-HUR (1959) LAWRENCE OF ARABIA (1962) DOCTOR ZHIVAGO (1965) BUTCH CASSIDY AND THE SUNDANCE KID (1969) RYAN'S DAUGHTER (1970) DELIVERANCE (1972) FAT CITY (1972) jeez! what was the man thinking? he could have become a greater legend than he already is. To my thinking .., he wasn't really suited to play the lead in any of these films and in the 60's he was supposed to be a lead actor and he would not have been hired to play a secondary role. Brando as Lawrence or Butch or Sundance or Zhivago or …(fill in blank) … I think not ! He was right to pass on these !

I remember my Dad always said "What Brando films from the 1960's?" I guess not saying anything is better in some cases. I will not comment for the same reason.

pimpinainteasy As I see Brando .. he is too urban to be a cowboy .. this is part of my problem with One-Eyed Jack. As for Butch ^ Sundance …. Sundance has to be fun / funny …. "light" … Brando is always a "heavy" actor and did not do comedy well. (IMO)Sky Masterson is the exception... and he's not really a "comic" character. Sakini in Teahouse also "works". Plus by the 60's he was no longer being the character.. he was being Brando and thinking that he is a terrific actor even when he isn't.
I read that he was offered the role of Will Kane in High Noon …. <shudder> !
Understand .. he was, at one time, high on my list of "my favorite actor".... for a while … and I still like him in the movies I liked him in.

BATouttaheckhe wasnt urban at all in THE MISSOURI BREAKS. and what about VIVA ZAPATA? so he could do comedy. he was not being BRANDO in REFLECTIONS IN A GOLDEN EYE, BURN and THE NIGHT COMERS.

Like some others I'm struggling to say one. As a Western lover I can't vouch for either Jacks or Appaloosa, both distinctly average and the love Jacks gets kind of baffles me. The rest of his 60s stuff is forgettable, though Mutiny on the Bounty has some qualities at least.
