Growing up in the Midlands (where there is scant little to do), my mum would always make sure my sister and I would watch whichever Ealing comedy BBC2 would be broadcasting. I grew to love those films and their distinctly British comedic ways. I adored THE MAN IN THE WHITE SUIT, KIND HEARTS AND CORONETS, and THE LAVENDER HILL MOB.
Since those days, sorry to be blunt, British comedy has descended to Mr. Bean like levels. What would you say have been the high watermarks for British comedy since those glorious Ealing films.

I don't think "Mr Bean levels" is such a bad thing. Bean can be inspired.
But the obvious answer to your question is A Fish Called Wanda - that would be the peak. Okay, yes, it's an Ealing director; but nonetheless, it's still closer to the present (released 28 years ago) than it is to the end of the Ealing era (30 years before that).

I'm going to disagree and say there have been some fab British comedies over the last years.
Some of the Month Python films. In Bruges The Boat that Rocked The Cornetto trilogy Paul Four Lions Local Hero Death at a Funeral
Just a few and I could name many more. They are definitely out there.
