Whenever I see him in an interview, Beatty comes across as so smug and full of himself. No warmth whatsoever. I don't know why he would have been so insecure, he was physically beautiful and enormously successful.
I find Robert Redford boring, too, but he also comes across as humble, so there's a difference.

I never found Warren Beatty physically attractive. Too narcissistic! I don't even like watching him in movies. Redford is a different kettle of fish and yes, he comes across as more genuine, noble and humble and I did find him more physically appealing than Beatty. Yes, exactly. WB is soooo narcissistic. It's such a turn-off. He has classically beautiful features, but he's a big dud in the personality department. He has never been an exciting presence in the movies, either. He started out at the age of 24 in "Splendor in the Grass", where Natalie Wood's character is ready to kill herself over him. Apparently, he took all this to his wooden heart.

It's a good song... "An apricot scarf..." Gawd, what a priss!

I thought Natalie Wood was the best part of that movie. She wasn't always a good actress, but was so touching and believable here. (Though Sandy Dennis does have a line or two as one of the girl gossips!)

Just reading about Simon's song and while she has played many games about the speculation of who it is really about, it appears that she has claimed it is about men and recently, that the second verse is only about Beatty, although she added he thinks the whole song is about him. He apparently rang her up to thank her for it.
Just found this on youtube
Warren Beatty is so vain, he thought the song was about him.

Thanks for the clip, Toasted Cheese. It's funny how that song has so much mystery/speculation about it. He rang her up to thank her for it? Hmmm... Poor Natalie. I had a friend who idolized her. I liked her okay, just thought she was a little un-exciting. But certainly pleasant enough and seemed kind. I was just watching a clip about Rebel Without A Cause and all the young deaths. Also had no idea that Sal Mineo was so sexy when he got a little bit older. Have you seen "Who Killed Teddy Bear?" It's a very intriguing little film. It's been described as a pre-cursor to "Taxi Driver" and I can see that. Sal co-stars with Juliet Prowse. The opening scene subtly depicts male masturbation. It's definitely an odd little film. Regarding WB, I've never seen "Reds". If I did, I think Maureen Stapleton would be the main draw.
