Probably and hopefully just a negotiation tactic by Sony to get a bigger percentage of future films' profits.

This is a big mistake for Sony to walk away. Hopefully, both sides come again to the negotiating table and work out a deal to keep Spider-Man in the MCU.

Sony sucks donkey balls. They killed their franchises like Ghostbusters, MIB and even to some extent James Bond and produce crap like the Angry Birds and Emoji Movies. Before Disney stepped in they nearly ran Spiderman into the ground (remember how awful TASM 2 was), and after the success of Civil War, Homecoming (due mostly to Feige/Disney), and the last two Avenger movies, Sony exec heads have got too big and they are going to run Spiderman into the ground again.
How the HELL did they make a Venom Movie WITHOUT SPIDERMAN??? Spiderman got the symbiote before Eddie did.
And the sequel with Woody wearing a Little Orphan Annie red wig masquerading as Carnage along with that Jared "Failed Joker" Leto's Morbius the Living Vampire movie by Sony look BAD as well.
Damn....

Guess Sony wants to ruin Spider-Man again. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. So...Why did you like the OP?

Sony should not make live action movies for 5 years.
They should focus more on the Spiderverse.

Good mcu spidey was trash. We can get Venom,Carnage and spidey together Do you really believe Sony would scrap Tom Holland's Spider-Man entirely in a heartbeat and reboot all over again after the amount of profit made from his rendition of the character? Remember Far From Home has made Sony the most money in a while. What they would most likely do is place him in one of their own Marvel movies and say it is part of the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe - They *can* do this with just the Tom Holland connection alone they do not need any other Avenger to be present to say it is or it isn't. Do you also think Disney and Sony will not try to reconcile after they have made so much earned from their last two collaborations? Especially with how Far From Home ended?

If it turns out that this whole thing was just a ploy by Disney to force Sony to agree to sharing 50% of the profits for Spider-Man films, then thatβs kind of screwed up.

I don't know, seems like Disney is being pretty greedy there. They have enough as it is and now they want 50% of their profits as well? They'd be putting up half the money but why can't Sony just refuse and continue as nor all? They have to give away half their profits for their biggest franchise, that's not right.

If it turns out that this whole thing was just a ploy by Disney to force Sony to agree to sharing 50% of the profits for Spider-Man films, then thatβs kind of screwed up. It's probably way more insidious than that. The boys at the mouse house can think bigger than 50% profits on one blockbuster franchise. If this was planned on their part, they're likely trying to show Sony what the business end of an angry fandom actually looks like. It's step one in a thirteen point program to run Sony into the ground and reacquire their misplaced assets (via takeover). No Time to Die just became the Sony corporate motto. Hope they can live up to it.

I just want to say this first, I want Spider-Man to stay in the MCU. That being said, I am laughing at the man babies on Twitter (mostly this guy: twitter.com/ManaByte ) whining and proclaiming that Sony's Spider-Man movies will bomb worse than Dark Phoenix and that nobody cared about Dark Phoenix because it had no connection to the MCU as if nobody see's super hero movies that aren't connected to the MCU. Seriously, this dude is BEYOND up Disney's ass it's quite hilarious. If Sony keeps Tom Holland, the cast, director and so on (Holland and Watts are contracted for 2 more movies I believe) then the movies still have a shot at being good/great. Damn though, so many man babies online are spouting things like boycotting Sony and just nonsense over it. It's no different than DC Fans yelling and demanding the Snyder Cut or the man babies demanding to boycott Captain Marvel. I know if the movies look good I'll still watch them because I fucking love Spider-Man. I have zero loyalty to a company that makes more than enough money in Disney. FWIW I have enjoyed the last two Sony super hero films more than I did the non Spider-Man MCU ones (Cpt Marvel and Endgame) so I'm not so dramatic like the Twitter guy to say that they'll in fact be horrible just because they're not connected. However, this is probably just a negotiation tactic as apparently talks are still going on. Hopefully they work something out. I just find a lot of this Twitter outrage over it quite hilarious.

Yeah, Kevin's too busy to help? That's their response? Someone at Sony took a look at twitter today and crapped themselves blind.

Saw this on Twitter and laughed my ass off. It was in response to the Twitter man baby I linked above. Btw, that dude is on like hour 8 now. He'd need his stomach pumped from all the wine he's had tonight.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B1aLBNZDPOl Renner just lost my respect , he should be talking to Disney, trying to tell Sony to take a bad deal, what a douche for bringing dead Stan Lee into this shit If Disney is willing o go 50/50 on paying for the films then they aren't a bad deal, it's an insulting deal is more likely, Disney wanting to control things, such as having say over when the films get released, wich was an issue with them over FFH, Disney want more control thinking Sony is bound to screw something up sooner or later, other than that it's not a bad deal, Sony cut their cost by 50% and with Disney on board they get the Disney hype train, I mean Sony aren't exactly stellar at selling their products a lot of the time.
This deal makes it sound like it will keep Sony's ROI the same which isn't bad, whilst Disney would also be losing out on their producing fee for making the Spidey films for Sony, as well as having to front cash for the films, it's not a "bad deal" so much as it is like I said an insulting one, whch if it's only for the Spider-Man and not the entire Spidey movies like Venom and such I don't think it's too bad a deal, if Disney want in on the likes of Venom then I get Sony saying FU, the got Venom to make a shit load of money with far less praise and money than most MCU films get, why should they have to give up a piece to that stuff that works because of how undisney it is?

You can blame that shitty Venom movie for all of this. Even though it looked like garbage and didn't even feature Spider-Man, people went and saw it anyway. Sony realized people will pay to see anything these days, so they're confident they can go back to making shit Spidey movies on their own. We'll see how it goes. Truthfully I wasn't wowed by FFH so I don't see it as a huge loss from my viewing perspective, but a 'meh' movie is better than the dumpster fire Andrew Garfield films or laughable Venom, which feels like it came out in 1997.
