Any other fans? I loved it as a teenager and rewatched them later in life and it still holds up. TNG I did not like. I know they have another series now as well.

I used to watch Degrassi on CBC when we could still get a signal across the Detroit River. Great show. My faves were Spike, Joey, Snake and Wheels.

It was a really great cast overall. I was fairly close to their ages and went to high school around that time period so it came off pretty legit to me and realistic.

Was shown it in grades 5-6 I think at school. I live immediately outside Toronto where it was produced. Its neighbourhood where filmed hasn't changed all that much.
@wheels_dad I'll just leave that there.

I am a BIG fan of the show. I have the complete series of DJH on DVD. For some reason, I never picked up DH on DVD.
Back when I was in grade 8, for guidance class, we watched an episode a week of season 1. We didn't get to the last 4 episodes for some reason.
I followed the cast to Degrassi High. The majority of the cast was entering grade 9 and 10 in the first season when it aired.
I had just started grade 9 when it first aired.
Showing my age -- CAN'T YA TELL?
Now, MTV Canada airs DJH and DH throughout the week. Off hand, can't remember the times. Right now, they are in the midst of airing DH.
I watch TNG for the first few seasons, but kind of lost touch after that.
They have a new version, called Degrassi : Next Class. I watched about 10 minutes of the pilot. That was enough for me.

Glad to know there's other big fans out there! I believe we may have chatted on the imdb boards as well. Your user name seems somewhat familiar. BUt yeah not only are these shows very entertaining and realisic but educational as well. So that makes sense that people would watch the programs in class. I would've loved that at the time. I did like you did and watched the first 10 minutes or so of that next class series and I won't give my personal commentary on it at the risk of offending somebody, but let's just say it made me feel old. And don't worry about showing your age. I believe I have you beat there.

I watched it on PBS. I was a little younger than the characters when they started Jr high.
I didn't get everything that they went through, but I liked that they were real teenagers that looked and acted like teenagers. That was real to me. I could also tell that it was filmed in a real school instead of a set and their homes looked like mine or my friends.

If you watched the TNG stuff, I felt like all the kids looked like they were on their way to a modeling shoot. It just felt kind of plastic to me and could never imagine I went to that school or knew people like that.

Yes - I was also known as Joker's Wilde on the original imdb boards.
It's a salute to one of my favourite game shows of the past - The Joker's Wild. I added the 'e' at the end because there was a gal who used to work for us that had the last name Wilde.

They did a revamp of The Joker's Wild back in the early 90s at noon on NBC.
I remember racing home from school for lunch to watch it.

Nickelodeon in Australia showed re-runs in the early 2000s, along with "Saved by the Bell" and "My Secret Identity". I recall thinking how awful the film stock looked, but I still enjoyed the show.

I loved Degrassi because it tackled issues teens really dealt with such as disapproving parents, teen pregnancy, drug/alcohol/tobacco use, driving, interracial dating, etc. in what I thought was a realistic way.
