Well, it's dickish but I'm not seeing the racism (isn't he white?).
To me, there's something slightly distasteful about assuming that any reference to monkeys of gorillas is racist.

His Granddad's from Nigeria. Must admit that surprised me.
I doubt MacKenzie knew that either.

It's unnecessarily insulting to Liverpool as a City and Barkley as a person, but people are getting far too upset about it.
Scousers aren't even the target audience, The Sun has apologised more than once for what they did in the past, the people of Liverpool have rejected the apology and continued the boycott. Boycotting for any reason is their right, but they can't boycott the newspaper and make demands about what goes into the newspaper or who is allowed to write in it. They have to pick one.
People are also accusing him of being racist, which shows how desperate people are to find sticks to beat The Sun with. Barkley isn't even black, the only people who'd consider him a black man would be people who subscribe to the archaic "one drop rule".

Not as upset as you where when someone made an off colour remark to a female journalist!

Not as upset as you where when someone made an off colour remark to a female journalist! If Kelvin MacKenzie was much bigger and stronger than Barkley and "joked" that he disliked Barkley's behaviour to the extent he might hit him next time he sees him it would be a bit different.

Don't think the police should be involved - that's just silly. Sack the guy and let that be an end to it.

Kelvin MacKenzie is an excellent writer and an excellent speaker, in that he is entertaining. But he is extraordinarily stupid. This is a dangerous combination, as we're seeing with Donald Trump. I'm not surprised he left school with only one O Level. His opinions are so poorly thought out, he has the reasoning skills of a... well... I'm tempted to say a Chimp, but you have to be careful in this day and age. Let's just say he has the reasoning skills of a 10 year old, it is like these people, the part of their brain responsible for logic and sound reasoning doesn't fully develop when they become an adult. It is a dangerous thing to have these people in positions of influence. He has been spouting shit for years, I'm just surprised that it is this article in particular that has finally caught up with him.
I guess this is a bit like when you witness a serial murderer in front of your very own eyes. He gets away with it time and time again, and then one day he gets arrested for an assault he didn't commit. You wish he was being arrested for the right reasons, but you're not exactly going to come riding to his rescue either..
