Last night’s Raiders/Chiefs game was notable for two reasons. First, Mahomes threw 4 TDs in one goddamn quarter. He’s insane. But also, it’s the last time we’ll ever see the infield dirt at Oakland Coliseum. The Raiders don’t play at home again until early November, by which time the A’s will be done for the year.
With the Raiders moving to Vegas next season, last night may have been the last time we’ll ever see infield dirt at a professional football stadium. I kinda liked that odd quirk at the Black Hole. It was the last of its kind as multi-purpose stadiums like that were mostly phased out about a generation ago.

It was always weird seeing infield dirt on a football field, it just looked out of place. The Dolphins had it before Marlins Park was built, the Raiders and Fins are the only 2 teams in recent memory to have that.

I'm happy it'll be gone, I always hated it.

Huge fan of it. Adds another dimension. Like how Baltimore was set up back in the day:

Because if Camden Yards began the renaissance of old-fashioned baseball stadiums, then that means that Mayflower truck left the old stadium baseball only for awhile. That's a shame.

For a long time, infield dirt must have been a way of life. All the teams, except Green Bay played in baseball stadiums. The Lions played in Tigers/Briggs Stadium, the Steelers played in Forbes Field, the Cardinals played in Comiskey Park etc.

Yeah, they played a game or two in County Stadium. Even newer franchises had to play in the dirt War memorial Stadium, Buffalo, aka The Rockpile. Also home of the New York Knights

I'll miss the baseball dirt on the football fields. As mentioned before, it used to be a lot more common. I'm sure not having dirt out there is a lot better for the players, I get that. But the dirt on the field made for a more fun viewing experience, especially when it would be raining and the dirt turned into mud.
Grass, mud, dirty uniforms, guys slipping and sliding everywhere.....that's old-school football, baby!!!
