I'll be controversial and say Steve Severin, although I would argue judging bass players largely depends on it's prominence in a band's sound. The Ox of course should be right near the top as should Tony Levin. I am also a big fan of Simon Gallup.

I like the work of Bernard Edwards (RIP) and Mick Karn.
How the f*** CHIC hasn't been fully inducted into the RARHOF I'll never know. I see Janet Jackson there, I see Tupac Shaker there, N W f***ing A? Public Enemy? This is the right list I'm looking at, yes?
I think CHIC has been up for induction over ten times and Nile Rodgers has received some kind of Hall of Fame Excellence Award or something... but to not have an outfit like CHIC in there is a travesty.
