"...Kathy is pursuing a new era in ‘Star Wars’ storytelling, and knowing what a die-hard fan Kevin is, it made sense for these two extraordinary producers to work on a ‘Star Wars’ film together.”
Let me re-interpret that to what I think it might REALLY mean:
"Kathy done fucked up. Kevin done made us billions! We make them to team up so Kevin can save SW, and we say they agreed to work together so Kathy can save face. Kevin gets to make SW movies, Kathy at least keeps her job, we make more billions! Go Disney!"

It's a clear sign that they recognize 'Solo' didn't flop because of franchise fatigue and trolls allegedly hacking Rotten Tomatoes. They know fanbase backlash was the biggest reason. And they're not 100% sold on Kennedy's production decisions for the future. It says they have a backup plan if the 3 headed monster of Kay Kay, JJ, and RJ start tanking. If Kennedy/Abrams is not a big blockbuster in TROS, and if the Kennedy/Johnson trilogy has modest or failing results, expect to see them push Feige to the front. Maybe even give him his own trilogy.

Oh, my friend, I'm calling it right now that Feige is getting his own trilogy! That's a done deal far as I'm concerned. Should it happen? I don't know. Will it happen? I'm 95% sure at this point. And if TROS underperforms... then book me for 100%!

Who's trilogy gets bumped Rian's or D&D? Or demoted to Disney+?

And yet, here we are two years later and nothing. Also, where's that Rian Johnson trilogy? LOL

And yet, here we are two years later and nothing. Also, where's that Rian Johnson trilogy? LOL I wish I could say I’m surprised but I’m not. All of the production focuses are going to television shows. Look at what fans are excited to talk about on other SW forums - the Mandalorian and the cartoons. The rumor is that 2 movie projects are being considered for the next SW movie (it is a rumor so take it with a grain of salt). 1) A movie about Jedi and Sith in an earlier era, allegedly conceptualized by Favreau and Filoni. 2) A movie set in a future era beyond the sequel trilogy. Supposedly about a Jedi who gets caught between the Sith and the Jedi, and takes on them both. In the process she rewrites the rules of using the Darkside and the Light, and becomes more powerful than either side. It allegedly has heavy backing from Kathleen Kennedy. All of the other alleged projects like Feige, Rian Johnson, Taika Waititi (etc) seems to be stuck in limbo with even their own namesakes admitting they’ve received no green light on any level. There seems to be strife, indecision, and a lack of confidence on what to move forward with on the next movie.

There seems to be strife, indecision, and a lack of confidence on what to move forward with on the next movie. Their problem is their world building narrative. Unlike MCU, they don’t have a treasure trove of passed narratives to recreate from, they build as they go with each new movie. So, they hit a wall as their original beloved characters die-off, literally and figuratively. You’re on to something there. There’s some decent expanded universe stuff that they could pull from. But as past works go it’s not as established or well known as anything from Marvel/MCU. That they did! The Paramount syndication shows did a good job of expanding the universe and growing the franchise. But ratings of the shows & movies finally started to drop. And the production costs rose. Then Paramount shut everything down. After that hiatus ended TPTB (the powers that be) rebooted the universe like you said. Both the movies and television shows. I guess the built in TV audience for the Paramount shows did help the movies. After that was over the safest thing to do was rehash or bring in new ideas and stories with rebooted pre-established characters. Maybe SW will eventually do the same thing: reboot the universe… or use Paramount’s strategy. Make movies based on the successful television shows. Maybe we’ll get a Mandalorian movie? LOL

Maybe they'll announced something during that Disney+ day stream?

I keep forgetting about most of these Star Wars projects that they supposedly have lined up. At this point one has to assume that ALL bets are off. They seem to be more excited about Disney+ shows than movies. The only thing I know of that seems to still have any steam whatsoever is the X Wing movie directed by Patty Jenkins (Star Wars: Rogue Squadron), and only because they did an official announcement for that. And that still may fall apart! Otherwise... Disney+ it is. And whats more... I don't really care for an X-Wing movie. Doesn't sound exciting. So we're going to see a lot of CGI X-Wings flying around. So?
