If she was born and raised in Sweden, ten how come she has an american accent? Am I missing something? Because she's a wannabe. We Swedes learn British English first at school, then in high school and so on it changes to American English. Accents depends on how much someone wants to kiss someone's ass.

In school we learn whatever accent the teacher has (my brother speaks with an american accent and I with a british) and from what shows we watch on tv as the shows are not dubbed. Moviemaniac22. Swedes are generally good at english, some pick up one accent and others an other. Many of us speak it so well that others think it is our native tounge when we are abroad. She could have had a english teacher with that accent, watched american tv or gone on holidays to the US with her family. It has nothing to do with licking someones ass.

Well, she tries really hard with that annoyingly accent which stereotypically LA High School cheerleaders speaks. And I think in most of Sweden you begin with British English because of the basics and then in high school and the gymnasium it depends on the teacher but mostly it turns to be the American one.

How can anybody be taught to speak in a certain accent? It sounds weird. I've never heard of that before.

By listening to your parents and the people around you, then mimicking. When we speak, we actually sort of sing, a scotsmen have learned a different tune than the Irish. I don't find her to sound like she is trying hard, I can even hear that she is swedish due to the melody in her voice. And it depends on the teacher in junior high etc aswell. a

They do not teach American or British accents in school. They do teach British spelling, but Scandinavians learning English solely from school will end up with Scandinavian accents. These days, however, most kids learn English primarily from the internet. And even before the internet, kids tended to learn a lot from movies (which aren't dubbed in any of the Scandinavian countries - except the kiddie flicks). Personally, I spoke with an American accent until about the 7th grade. Then my accent changed to British from around the 7th grade onwards. It wasn't a conscious choice; I'm not sure how it happened. It could be that I was starting to watch more British movies and not just American ones (which absolutely dominated the market in those days). It was certainly around that time that I discovered Monty Python.
