or more than one hit song...Or do you prefer artists that never had one...
Generally.
I will say personally I like artists that had hit song or songs. Because it just makes more sense , for Me. Just my humble opinion. obviously not saying that , just because an artist had a hit song does not mean I like them. That would mean I would have to like shitty artists.

I don't care but it's obviously easier to find out about artists who had at least one hit.

Do you generally prefer artists that had 1 hit song or more than one hit song...Or do you prefer artists that never had one... The music I buy these days definitely falls into the "never had a hit song" category. I know what I like, and I don't need some so-called arbiter of taste telling me what I should be listening to.

I prefer artists that have songs that I like. Whether or not they had hits is pretty irrelevant to me.

The whole playing field of music accessibilty and 'popularity' has changed manifold in recent years.
Years ago...popular music, apart from live concerts was placed, plugged and heard on radio stations and a few tv shows ...and folk bought what they heard and liked, thus determining what was a 'hit' .
Nowadays....the ways we find music new and old, is vast....not limited to just radio play.
The 'charts' and 'hits' are largely irrelevant for over 15 year olds and have been for a while . There are scores and scores of great acts around now and doing well , without mega hit singles.
Having a big selling single, although nice for 5 minutes for the artist is no longer the sole yardstick of what deems an act's talent, entertainment value and longevity.

Yes, the music world has changed completely in the last few years. I wrote a similar observation in response to the news that Best Buy was no longer selling CDs: The iHeartRadio/Best Buy music business model only worked when the music cartel (major labels, mainstream radio and video channels, and brick and mortar stores) acted as the arbiter of taste. The music cartel controlled the supply. Music fans were all listening to a limited number of hit songs, by a limited number of major label artists. The limited number of hit albums made it easy for brick and mortar retailers like Best Buy to keep them all in their inventory. Now technology (low cost digital recording and streaming over the internet) means it's never been easier to be an unsigned/independent band and have your music heard by the masses. This in turn lead to the democratization of the music industry and the decline of the music cartel.

I do like those of the one-hit wonder category.
Although....I think it was on here that I got flayed alive for suggesting that Dexy's Midnight Runners was a one-hit wonder. I guess it all depends on where one is in the world. On this side of the Atlantic, they were mainly known for "Come On Eileen". In the UK, they did have several more hits.
I guess they could say the same for some artists that are from the States or Canada, eh?
Speaking of Come On Eileen....
It's pretty cool to be labeled a one-hit wonder. It's even cooler to be labeled a one-hit wonder when one's hit is a cover....of someone's else's one hit!
This was the case with the band Save Ferris.

I prefer artists that have songs that I like. Whether or not they had hits is pretty irrelevant to me. I can see where you are coming from, personally I like artists that have mainstream appeal. In recent years that has failed me. In other words the mainstream artists of recent years have released crap. Well in my opinion.
I just find, it is better when you have songs, that appeal to the mainstream that are also good songs. But that will never happen anymore.
Any song that is released today that is a hit, will not be a good song. Because they haven,t been.
If you don, t believe me, well some of the 90,s music still had good songs that also were hits, can,t say the same thing about today.

I can understand that. I pay very little attention to the charts these days, because the type of music that tops the charts now isn't my cup of tea.

Never really cared whether an artist had hits or not...Most of the acts I like haven't really had a "Hit", but there are some who have...It's just never been a focal point...

Well, that's a rather odd question. I don't even know how somebody would answer that question. I did like Looking Glass,"Brandy, You're a Fine Girl", and I believe that's a one hit wonder.
