For Thanksgiving, I've been assigned a sweet potato and/or yam dish. My host/hostess don't care for them to be sweetened with sugar, marshmallows, etc. ... and I agree with them. We, also, decided no fruit juice.
I always steam them, and add butter, with a little salt/pepper. I'm sure that would be fine with them, and I really like it. But, I'm wondering if any of you has a favorite herb, or other flavoring that you particularly like, that doesn't turn them into a confection.
There's plenty of time for me to experiment, and I'll think about it, and play around. I'll throw any suggestions into the mix. I'll, also, be eating a lot of sweet potatoes, between now and Thanksgiving.

Ooh, I love that idea! Thank you. I'm going to try it.
Do you crisp, and crumble the bacon? I would think that the difference in textures would be wonderful.
Thanks, Sweetpea.

I looked for recipes/videos for sweet potatoes with bacon, and found one from "Laura in the Kitchen," which is one of my favorite food vlogs. (below) She crisps the bacon, adds chopped fresh sage, and minced garlic, then removes all but the bacon grease from the skillet. She browns the sweet potatoes (which she has partially cooked) in the bacon fat, at 5-6 minutes per side. The bacon/sage/garlic is re-introduced to the browned "potatoes," and she mixes everything together. It looks delicious. Is that the kind of process that you use? Do you use other herbs/flavors? I'd like to try a variety of combinations. www.youtube.com/watch?v=COxSgalFqzQ

I do a fabulous carrot dish, with brown sugar, butter and bourbon ... it's Chef John's "Glazed Carrots." I'll bet it's great with sweet potatoes, too. I'll try it for myself. However, my host have asked for no sweeteners.
This morning, I bought some yams/SP, from one of my local produce stores. I have to "eat down" some broccoli that I bought at a great price, but I'll probably move into my "sweet potato phase," by Friday.

I haven't made it, and I'm not sure that I've seen this video. I've seen so many of his. I'll try it "next chicken," although use a stove top grill, or do it in the oven, so it would have to be modified.
Thanks.
