Watched this one late last night; haven't seen it in about seven years. Still holds up quite well. Believable performances throughout; The scene where the four leads decide what to do over their freshly acquired corpse is particularly well acted. Of course, there is the infamous rape scene which manages to feel both absurd and terrifying. Was Cohaagen actually shot and did Ed actually kill the wrong Mountain Man? If I had to nitpick, the day for night processing is pretty bad.

Totally agree, Deliverance does hold up well, and the four leads give outstanding performances. A film that perfectly demonstrates the clash of urban arrogance with nature. The rape scene is still powerful and shocking, and it could very well be a significant parallel of since man rapes the land with urbanization, the land will now rape man. A 70s classic.

Awesome movie and it holds up extremely well today.
On a side note, it's always kinda bothered me how people are so quick to mock the rape scene, pretty much only because the victim is male. Back when IMDb had its message boards, the board for this film was littered with nothing but bad jokes about that scene.

Even the scene in The Hateful Eight is extremely dark yet still humorous.

How did he manage to shoot the guy with the gun and himself at the same time with two different arrows?
He isn't dead. Just meditating with a new yoga pose.

Back when IMDb had its message boards, the board for this film was littered with nothing but bad jokes about that scene. I don't find anything at all ever funny to joke about rape no matter the gender of the victim. When you meet someone who has been raped or a victim of it yourself that changes one's perspective on it to being offended by jokes about it.

Ned Beatty, not well known then, put in the best performance. I also liked the author James Dickey's appearance toward the end.

Yeah, it is confusingly edited.

Seeing Burt without a stache is just wrong. Hell, Burt now being dead is just wrong. He just seemed like an immortal guy. Ya know what I mean?

Also, Bobby seems to pay the price for his dismissive and condescending attitude towards the locals when they first arrive.

You do a double feature of this and Blair Witch Project, and you'll never go anywhere near the woods ever again.
