Interesting twist, the arrow through the Batman cowl, instead of the Deathstroke mask, like the original way the rescue from the island played out. I'm nonplussed about Oliver's less ragged appearance reveal though, seeing as how retconned his actual rescue as being stage; and his shaggy hair/beard all being faked. This just means this iteration of Oliver just doesn't give a fuck.
I'll admit, seeing some of these alternate twists are intriguing; even if I saw the reveal of Thea overdosing while Oliver was gone coming.
Everything seems to be playing out as if the events of the series occurred years later; I might have missed it, but are they saying Oliver's been gone for the last 13 years or did he go missing later? I just realized Tommy commented about being missing for a decade; which I initially just chalked up to a comment about Tommy being gone from the show for the nearl that long, but I'm guessing that actually means Oliver's been gone at least that long. In his absence, did "The Undertaking" still happen? I mean, it happened even when he was there, but still...
So it's the Oliver we know, living events in another timeline/parallel universe. I kind of figured, the way he looked for Thea and Walter, but mentioning William sealed the deal. So back on the island, he just did give a fuck to look shaggy.
It's really starting to show that Stephen Amell has been doing this for 8 years; in multiple scenes now I can't help but think how much older he looks - and that may at least in part have to do with watching some reaction videos from season 1 earlier today, but it's clear he's not the young man in his late 20s/early 30s anymore - which, to be clear, is not a criticism, just an observation. Stephen is not much older than I am and I can say with a fair amount of confidence that in 10 or even 20 years he will probably be in exponentially better shape and be better looking than I could ever hope to be. It's just one of those surreal qualities about television in film, where you can capture these moments in time and watch them over and over and the people will always look the same in that moment; only to then juxtapose that static image with what that person looks like today....sometimes you forget how much time has passed, because those people in the older episodes never age.
If this little walk down memory lane proves anything, it's a)they made a huge mistake whittling down so much of the original supporting cast, and b) sometimes a simple costume is best and if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Oh, it's Earth Two.... that's weird. I mean, that Earth's history was shown to have gone into a pretty big tangent; it seems unlikely that the lives of Oliver and his family would have otherwise paralleled his so closely. I mean, they had thrown in an Easter Egg on the Flash of Robert Queen being the Green Arrow on Earth 2 - so why no mention of Robert surviving? Where is he?
I wouldn't mind Chase-2 calling Laurel "pretty bird" if the show hadn't completely screwed up the development of the Black Canary or her relationship with Oliver Queen. Green Arrow and Black Canary are supposed to be together. She's supposed to be his "pretty bird" and this, rather than be a nod to that, is more a reminder of the dumpster fire the show created, between what they did with either version of Laurel, to say nothing of fucking Olicity......
I bet it's not Malcolm Merlyn. Probably Tommy. Maybe William. Fucking William.
Earth 2 is supposed to be super advanced, why does Starling City look no different from Earth 1?
Oh, fuck, we went 13 minutes without a flash forward; and it was glorious. I had actually kind of forgot about them....
At least Felicity-2 isn't around. That's a plus. It's a little sad though, seeing how 7 or 8 years ago I'd have been the last person to say that.
Oh my God, Tommy's the Dark Archer. I cannot believe it.
I just want to find a woman who looks at me, the way Oliver looks at John Diggle. Is that so much to ask? When that door opened and Diggle was introduced, I half expected some cheesy 90s love ballad to begin to play.
It's even better that it's the prime Diggle. Hmmm. "Prime Diggle" - that sounds dirty, and I'm okay with that.
Ugh, fucking William. Why is he such a whinny bitch? He makes Wesley Crush look like fucking Schwarzenegger.
I'm starting to think the writers on these shows have some serious issues with their brothers.....
"I have seen Starling City come back from darker moments than this."
Is that true though? I mean, for one thing, your Starling/Star City had darker moments than the "Undertaking"; that's an important thing to keep in mind, because essentially that was the city at it's best and it went down from there. On this earth they went an extra 7 or 8 years before even getting to the Undertaking and ostensibly have completely side stepped things like the attacks by Deathstroke and his army, or Ra's and his army, or Damien Darhk and his army, or the army of corrupt SC PD officers..... Never mind that unbeknownst to Oliver how shitty Star City ends up in 20 years. This right now, on Earth 2, is Starling City's golden age, if it's to follow the path of Oliver's city.
Alright, you win Amell, it's all very impressive that you can hoist yourself up a chain; or walk around with all of your cartilage....
.........Uh.....Why is Black Canary using a gun....or shooting people with a gun......? Didn't she spend the whole of last season reforming and lamenting being a killer?
Also doesn't she have her sonic cry?
Sigh....is Oliver going to save the day with a damn pep talk? Are we to honestly believe a man so far gone as to have a fucking weapon of mass destruction is just going to change his mind at the last second, because someone says "you're better than this"?
Yup, apparently.
You must appreciate bad guys who don't kill their opponents when they have them on the ground and a sword at their throat.
Well shit. Goodbye Earth 2. Does that mean Harry and Jesse are gone too? Because that's a pretty shitty and unceremonious way for two notable characters to go, off-screen like that.....
