Have I just not been playing close attention or has the Martian CGI always looked this fake? I mean, I know it hasn't always been great, but J'Onn's brother talking to him on the street looks fake as shit.
Interesting fake-out; I assumed the pedestrians starring at "Kelly" were under the
and that's how whatever his name is... Steve? I'm just going to call J'Onn's brother Steve. I assumed that's how Steve found not-Kelly.
Why would you challenge someone to do the thing you don't want to do? Don't taunt the bad guy to use his power against one of you? Jesus, Alex, I bet you'd try and tell a mugger that he's out of bullets and dare him to try and shoot you.
And if they had such a foolproof plan, how exactly did Steve manage to use his
?
I'm not sure which is creepier, Nia astral projecting to creep on Billy, or Brainiac hovering over Kara because she was on the phone with Nia.
So is William going to turn out to be a spy or something?
Wait, Lena is working with this show's version of Princess Gina on a project to coincidentally create the same style of mind control that Steve uses; and they also call it
?
That's seems about as unlikely as me sharing a bubble bath with Melissa Benoist while I watching and reviewing Supergirl. I will neither confirm nor deny, however, if that is in fact what I'm doing, but rather I'm going to let your imaginations run wild, as will mine; because hope springs eternal.
Ok, so between the panning down to the watch in Lena's lab and the oh so subtle reminder that Lex had invented a port watch during the show's "previously on" segment, I'm guessing Lena plans to use a portal watch to absconded with Steve; even though he's able to phase through the fucking Phantom Zone portal or whatever the projector does.
I know when I plan to squat at some random person's house, I always bring my math text books for some light reading.
And pizza. Can't for the 'za.
Wait, how are they testing the Phantom Zone projector on J'Onn without, you know, potentially sending J'Onn to the Phantom Zone....?
Augh, haven't the poor and downtrodden been put through enough already, that you have to go and inject James and Kelly into their story to "help" them. And I get it, the kid in the store stealing the ravioli is hungry and just wants to eat, but Christ, how is the store owner the bad guy for not wanting somebody ripping him off?
Oh, come on; Supergirl is snooping around the dead girl's apartment and hears someone come in and figures it's better to quick change back into her civies on the off chance....what... that the person walking in would be a random stranger and/or assassin who didn't know what Elena Torres was? Wouldn't it have been better to duck out of the apartment all together?
And what the fuck sort of assassin doesn't know what their target looks like? Kara didn't even actually affirm that she was Elena, she just sort of shrugged awkwardly and the assassin is like, "yeah, good enough," and had at it.
What the fuck is up with these effects this episode; first Steve, and now Kara being blown out the window looks like shit too.
Really, you take the time to put your civies back on, get blown out the window, then come crashing through the door (and again with breaking down the door; why is Supergirl such a dick to doorways?) and starts yelling at her attacker about how "you could have hurt that lady" - Fuck you writers. This is the sort of scenario that strains credulity in the dual identities of Kara and Kal-El. There's literally no reason this other woman shouldn't respond, "What are you talking about? You're clearly the woman I just blew out the window. Why are you claim that was someone else? Was that your secret identity? Should I keep an eye out now for someone who looks exactly like you, but in glasses and your done slightly different? Also, if you saw what happened to this alleged "other" lady, did you save her? Where is she? Seems odd that she went out one way and you supposedly caught her, landed somewhere with her safely, then came to confront me from a completely different direction, rather than come through the open window. But then I guess you figured I'd have paid even closer attention to the fact that you look exactly like woman who just went out the window if you came back in the same way. What I'm saying is, why did even try to pass yourself off in this situation as anyone other than Supergirl; which would have been much less conspicuous than some random woman standing in somebody's apartment?"
Oh no, Steve put the whammy on someone at the DEO in order to take control of the Martian blaster, just like somebody else predicted. Who could ever have seen this coming....
Oh, no, not Alex...........
Not.......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................Alex!!!
Yeah, James, fight the system! I'm sure it won't take more than an afternoon.
Pick a lane writers, you can either try and make Lena the bad guy, or she can be the insightful buddy helping out her friends; you're not skilled enough or creative enough to attempt nuancing any of the characters like that.
Also, Brainiac has a literal, physical difficulty asking for help? Who the fuck is he supposed to be, the Fonz? Christ, even 7 of 9 knew how to ask people for help; albeit usually more as an order to "assist me," but she didn't let pride stand in her way of getting work done efficiently.
What the hell is this shoehorned retroactive continuity for James working for some podunk town, before moving on and "getting out of this town"? They said the house they were going to was their aunt's; and not even the type of property that they expect anyone to live in full time, yet don't just sell. More than that, conventionally Jimmy Olsen got his start as a cub reporter at the Daily Planet; maybe even just starting out as an intern or what have you.
And seriously, prison reform is a huge, important issue that needs to be tackled; and they're try to address it in such a ham handed way. It achieved little, if anything creatively; and doesn't do the real life issue justice, by approaching it in such a contrived way.
Why the hell did James and Kelly, who are trying to go under the radar and not be found, travel to someplace where they have any kind of history or where anyone would recognize them?
Okay, fuck you writers; this better all be Alex's under whoever's influence, because they're laying it on pretty fucking thick as being entirely J'Onn's fault, when all he's guilty of doing is wiping his own mind and the mind of their father's. That is not the sole motivation they've given to his brother; he was doing this shit long before that and that is why he wiped his and their father's memories. And that was after Malefic was in the Phantom Zone; so how the hell did he even know?
This better not be a fake out, where they make us think she's under Malefic's control, only to find out she somehow broke out of his control.
Man, they must be really pinching pennies for Crisis, what with with the bad effects; and then they apparently pulled some random guy from a sperm bank mid deposit, threw him in a costume and then fed him the line to report the blaster is missing and that the armory of "anti-Martian artillery" in the most...ahem...wooden way possible....
Also, why did they have anti-Martian artillery in the armory? I mean, I suppose it's for the White Martians, but they made such a big deal about this special blaster that can kill Martians; as though that's the only thing that'll do the trick, but they also apparently have some standard issue stuff just laying around that no one discussed using.
Yeah, James, Simon says it's not your problem. Simon said it, James; those are the rules.
Wait, there's a fucking documentary about martians at the planetarium? I mean, I guess it makes sense, seeing as J'Onn's existence isn't exactly a secret anymore, nor are aliens in general, for that matter. It just seems like the sort of thing they've glossed over.
But how exactly did this video get made? Did J'Onn provide the footage? CGI? How much did they consult him, the only heretofore known living martian? Presumably quite a bit. Did he get his beak wet? Get an EP credit?
I mean, yeah, the way you treated him wasn't great, but also, he betrayed you slaughtered a lot of people on your world. I find it kind of hard to believe that the blame isn't at least 50/50, if not skewed to some degree towards Steve.
Fuck these writers and their over used trope of inspirational speeches and the power of love.
That's a great dramatic entrance Supergirl; very convenient of Steve to give you a cue line to riff off of - "He was also supposed to come alone too!" but you know, he could have pulled the trigger at any time between revealing himself and when you finally zapped the blaster from his hands; so it's a good thing for you he decided to monologue a little first, eh?
The people at the planetarium think this is all part of the show, don't they? They're all stoned, aren't they?
Anyone else not able to think of the world "planetarium" without think of this:
"How could you think I would say those thing or think those things?"
Because the writers suck at their job; and having people hold inane grudges about some ridiculous, perceived slight is exactly their wheelhouse? I mean, fuck, that's half of Lena's story so far this season.
Ugh.... When mentioning "Team Supergirl" at the start of the episode, I honestly wondered to myself if they had some other name I wasn't thinking of, because unlike the other shows, "Team Supergirl" didn't sound right, but Superfriends? Fuck me.
Man, this top secret government, quasi-military installation is terrible at keeping their top secret tech safeguarded. Are there no cameras in the lab? Is no one watching them? Is it that Extra they pulled from the sperm bank? Because that doesn't seem like a good idea....
Wouldn't a "no compete" clause for a former editor of a newspaper include publishing one? That hardly seems like much of a distinction. I'm not sure what to make of this as his means of departure, because unless they intend to show us any degree of his progress, it seems kind of pointless to setup this kind of story with no follow through. At least something like running for office has implications of trying to achieve something worthwhile, while keeping it ambiguous enough that the details don't matter as much; and you can leave it up to the viewer's imagination as to how that all goes. But this is something more specific; they presented characters that James has varying ties to and a quantifiable task that we may or may not even get to see.
Again with the quick change. I don't know if William would have been more or less receptive to finding Supergirl in his secret apartment, but seriously, it's super suspicious to randomly find average Kara Danvers lurking around.
You know, for William to be in something this deep, he's kind of a fucking idiot to trust Kara enough to spill everything, just based on what little convincing she offered him. It might have seemed more plausible for him to trust Supergirl, but how well could he possibly know Kara to know that she's either not a potential security risk or someone trying to undermine him herself? They faked a fucking murder with a substitute burnt corpse, because of the threat of a real assassin coming for someone involved in this; and spilling the beans so readily is how you get someone in hiding killed. Hell, for that matter, even assuming he had enough reason to trust Kara, it's clear that just knowing any of this information puts that person in serious danger; and this guy didn't so much as give a second thought to possibly putting a target on Kara's back.
Man, these guys are going to have their own sexy time in a bubble bath, aren't they? And then William is promptly going to die as a result of this story; and Kara will be the one to see it through in his memory.
I have to give the writers their due; the last scene with Jimmy was pretty good (I'm ambivalent about him giving the kid his dad's camera though - that'd be a tough sell for me).
But true to form, I think they undermined the poignancy of that scene by cutting to the reveal that Lena has Steve; and in spite of my initial conclusion that my speculation of how she would procure him, I'm guess she did in fact use the portal watch to whisk him away after all....
