BATouttaheck Very true! Problem is, every time I think I have a lead, there's something wrong... The maximum is this Judy Brown's--er--prison sentence, God help us (and her, to be honest).

BATouttaheckYour reference to my printing out the whole Sleuth saga reminded me that one day I ought to write a book on the whole thing ( The Saga of the Sleuth Songs, perhaps?).

tarathian123 , BATouttaheck , carlcarlson1 , Carl LaFong , paislene , mattjoes , et al. So I finally find another person who can help, a Cole Porter expert, specialist, and music detective named Judy Brown, and then--naturally--I find the worst news I could receive: The woman murdered her brother-in-law in 2003 and was sent to prison for 20 years! Exactly the luck I would have with this everliving mystery. Maybe she went crazy while trying to find out who the singer in "Sleuth" was!

I think maybe you have something there. We just have to hope Ms B's malady is not contagious.

That means there's no hope for me... mattjoes, your comment gave me an idea: maybe the singer was some kind of Lovecraftian creature, and mankind is not meant to know that fact, lest we go mad from the revelation... Nah, on second thought, Cthulhu would probably never want to sing Cole Porter. The Gershwins, on the other hand...

They are doing wonderful things with vaccines these days. Do not despair. It may have been caught in time, Nalkarj .

For some reason, I'm picturing a dog standing on its hind legso, paw placed on his chest, proclaiming: "He doesn't get that from MY side of the family." Why is it, do you reckon, that I always have this particular thought?

Michael Feinstein posted this question on his Facebook page. As yet there is no answer. I don't think he knows. However he is out of the country I believe performing. He may sign into his archives when he gets home. I hope he can find the answer

That's so cool, Salzmank. Hope is on the horizon. Hope on the horizon indeed--light at the end of a very long tunnel. When (if?--but hopefully "when") this experience is finally over, I'm probably going to ask myself why I fell down this rabbit hole in the first place; I honestly thought the question was only going to take a few days to solve on IMDb. Wow.

List of possible singers according to the Facebook commenters (leaving out those contenders--Frank Luther, Cole Porter, Al Bowlly, Sam Browne--we've already mentioned):
Dick Haymes
Mandy Patinkin ("Inigo Montoya" in The Princess Bride)
Joel Grey
Donald O'Connor (very doubtful...)
Christopher Gable
Anyone know about any of these guys, or if they're likely candidates?

When (if?--but hopefully "when") this experience is finally over, I'm probably going to ask myself why I fell down this rabbit hole in the first place; I honestly thought the question was only going to take a few days to solve on IMDb. Wow. It's probably in the nature and attraction of mystery, or should I say the unknown and, rather like learning the secret behind an impressive stage illusion, it's usually more intriguing to wonder than to know. I haven't contributed to this thread or to its earlier IMDB incarnation (that I can recall), but I've been following them, and am placing my money on this outcome: if the singer's name is ever definitively established, the reaction thereto will likely be a collective, "Who?!?"Even if it does turn out to be someone of whom none of us have ever heard, I'd kinda like to think that he's still kickin' these 45 years on (could be), and may yet stumble upon these inquiries and reveal himself. Until then, there might be some sexagenerian or septuagenarian somewhere who has no idea of all the people wondering about him. And if he ever does, I'd like to think also that it will bring him some measure of gratification.
