Each Monday my cinema shows a classic.
Last week - Lust for Life This week - All the President's Men Next week - Ordinary People
They have a link - what?
(I believe it's only a coincidence, not the result of intentional programming.)

Speaking of The Searchers … in your collective opinions …. is Ethan the "villain" ?

Ethan and Scar are 2 sides of the same coin. Martin is the hero.

ok so we are agreed on that one
.. next questions
are Butch and Sundance the VILLAINS in BC&tSK ?
or are they bad boy heroes and the guys after them are the villains ?
Ditto Bonnie and Clyde …. with the police being the villains ?

Now we're getting tricky....
Butch and Sundance - bad boy heroes.....probably
Bonnie and Clyde - even more tricky.....villains, but partly because of the desperate conditions of the time?

OldAussieThis is why I avoid the "villains" games over on Bakers Dozens …. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) I see Bonnie & Clyde and Butch and Sundance as the Bad Person heroes since they are the leads in the story with the Law/sheriff/whoever being the Bad Guys who are going after them with killing or capturing on their minds. Same with the Jesse James or Billy the Kid type stories …. the outlaws are the good guys who the villains (the lawmen) are out to "get" !
and then there's figuring out where Cody Jarrett and Tom Powers and Rico fit into all this ! ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

Bonnie and Clyde , BC&Sdk , the James Boys, by me, are on a continuum that has almost nothing to do with the leads. They are , one and all, wayward, Charming, principalled and sinned against. The continuum concerns the relative venality, greed, and emotional dishonesty of the lawmen who are trying to nail them . Butch Cassidy- we know almost nothing about tge lawmen tracking them. Butch and Sundance are being tracked by relentless bean counters, just the sort of Gillian Hollywood would concoct as tge studios with all their individualism and style were being chewed up by financial types, married to the bottom line.
Bonnie and Clyde- the venality here is in the man who set them up, CW’s dad, who smiled and smiled while being a villain. There was nothing particularly despicable about Frank Hamer, the Texas ranger determined to pay them back for the humiliating photos. His beef was personal and professional, but he went about catching them in a straight forward manner.
