Very faithful to the novella, but thought it could use a remake.

Pretty meh! It was faithful to the novella, but the film has some pretty average werewolf effects and NO genuine scares. It also looks like an 80's movie, when it was supposed to be 70's. Anthony, too much overkill with the images. Choose 4 or 5 at the most, they can stagger the page loading. "Anthony, too much overkill with the images." --------------------------------
Oh, I am sorry about that.

I didn't like it much when I first saw it. It was too much King of the 80s and that's not a good combination. That decade is littered with really bad King adaptations. Some are generously labeled 'cult' classics.
I decided to read King's Cycle of the Werewolf, which he obviously phoned in. It was terrible. Illustrations are decent, though. You would think the 'king' of horror could write one decent werewolf novel. Not that any others stand out. Jack Williamson's Darker Than You Think is a decent novel. If there is a great 'werewolf' novel, it has to be Whitley Streiber's The Wolfen, though it's not technically a 'werewolf' novel, it's a fantastic novel. If you can find a copy.
I watched Silver Bullet not that long ago and I really enjoyed it. It's not a masterpiece. It's not An American Werewolf in London. It's not even The Howling. But it does have a goofy silliness, a slice of midwest Americana and some really extraordinary facial expressions from Gary Busey.

Couple of reactions. Foremost I was seriously scared for Marty in the old covered bridge scene. I remember thinking there is NO way out of this for him with the reverend in his car right on him.
Even when we hear the tractor I thought there us no way the farmer will hear Marty.
How fun it would be to have an uncle like Red and that he loved Marty a lot to build the Silver Bullet for him.
The reverend's dream really creeped me out.

I remember immediately suspecting the correct person to be the werewolf. Certainly, by Hollywood standards it was obvious, but there seemed to be an underlying reason to suspect that person as well. I can't remember why. Something he said early, or something about his demeanor.
There were a lot of exceptionally well done theatrics. The "great hunt" had superb theatrics and horror appeal to the human psyche. The relationship and character of the protagonists was identifiable and easy to empathize with.
I'm a harsh grader, so my 8/10 rating puts it in my top 300-400 films of all time.

I've always liked it, very fun, entertaining and mildly scary. The brother and sister relationship resonated powerfully with me, because it reminded me of my sister and I. Gary Busey was great and the actress that played Haim's sister was quite good.

I also loved how Gary Busey's character started to nearly panic towards the end when just before the monster came smashing into the house, the power went out.

The Fog Scene is my own Number 1 Favorite Scene in "SILVER BULLET".
The video quality is really pretty bad (I am sorry, I couldn't find a version with better quality) but you still get a good idea of what is happening.

I saw it for the first time just before my matriculation examination in 1999. We had to write an essay about "the best movie you have ever seen". Although it's not actually my favorite movie, I chose Silver Bullet for the topic of my essay. I remember that I liked it and I have it on DVD.

I got C. During that time there were only six grades. E was not in use.

LOL, I remember this 1 time back in either 3rd or 4th Grade for me where I did so badly on this test that each of my classmates and I took that instead of giving me an "F" on the test, The Teacher actually gave me a "G".

Well, I saw it for the first time - albeit the last five minutes or so - and thought that Gary Busey looks relatively sane here.
