Well I was probably like 9 or 10 the first time I saw it when it originally aired on TV, so my memory is a bit fuzzy. I guess I probably thought something like "That was a cool movie".

I enjoyed it. Solid prototypical thriller for what Spielberg would later perfect with JAWS.

I enjoyed it and found it inspiring because of its small scale.
I wanted to get some mates together, hire out a video camera and go out and make our own small scale adventure film.
It was the mid 1980s and we were all late teens and early twenties.

Possibly "McCloud is a wimp!" You are lucky I didn't take a gulp of something otherwise I would have had to send you my computer to clean it off the screen! Thanx for the laugh. That is really funny!

The short story by legendary writer of sci-fi/horror Richard Matheson remains one of my favorites. I thought the movie, seen not long after I had read the story, seemed to not have a bit of tension unlike the near heart attack from terror that Matheson could conjure. Maybe seeing it again now at a distance, it might feel different to me. They say that one should not compare a book to its movie, say, because the two are different. There is something in that.

It was one of the best television movies I had ever seen up until that point. I could definitely see the tropes Steven Spielberg took and used for Jaws.

It was good and seems to be one of SS's underrated or forgettable movies and I don't think it should be.
The part where he is in the diner and terrified and paranoid and starts blaming customers and making a scene. That was really well done because that made me empathize and feel uncomfortable for him.
It has been said that all those license plates the truck had were souvenirs or trophies of previous encounters with other cars.

He did a few tv movies where he played wimpy weirdo guys. ROLLING MAN is funny-he's an underachiever father who loses his kids after going to jail and following all sorts of frustrations, he has a big freak out at the end in an orange grove before Donna Mills saves the day.

The first time I saw it was when I was a kid, and it freaked me out pretty good.
Many years later, I was doing a sales job out in Elko, Nevada when it came on in the hotel I was staying at. To be honest, maybe because of where I was, it freaked me out even more than when I was younger.
Very cool film, and you gotta love Dennis Weaver!

Great film, and still on of my favorites...
I find movies like this one, as well as films such as Jaws & Cujo. to be far more scary to me than most HORROR films, since such villains are real, and anyone can be the victim of ROAD RAGE, SHARK ATTACKS, & DOG ATTACKS, at any time, and any place.

Brilliant thriller!
From a 24 year old director on a 12 day shooting schedule.

Where was Matt Dillon and Miss Kitty when he really needed them?
