SPOILERS BELOW I just finished binge watching Mad Men. I dont understand why this show so popular. The characters were great but the story lines were awful most of the time. Nothing happened! Mad Men completely relied on set pieces- nostalgia ads and references. The ending was such a disappointment. IN 7 seasons not much happened. One of the biggest things that happened was the lawnmower cutting that British ad mans foot and it took 3 seasons for that to happen. First time I laughed out loud while watching the show. I know they worked hard on the nostalgia but nostalgia isnt enough. You need good stories. Mad men relied on Don, Peggy and Roger.( the shows MVP for his great quips) Everyone else could have been replaced and no one would notice. I dont recommend this unless you grew up in that era.Unless you are 60 years old or older, you won't get half of the references during that period.

Disagree.
Mad Men was awesome and something was always happening even if it didn't involve typical TV drama tropes.
The Suitcase is one of my all time favorite episodes ever.
It's not about nostalgia since I lack any nostalgia from that time. It is about the characters and how they cope with daily life, secrets, & world events which is what we all face at one time or another.

Ugh that's such horrible news because I was planning to watch it after House Just finished my third marathon of that show on NetFlix though this time I skipped some episodes that i didn't like much in my two previous marathons.

Yeah, from your comments it's quite clear you're not a particularly deep thinker, so this show clearly wasn't for you.

Im sorry, but its true. If you are bored, feel free to watch it but dont expect to be satisfied when you are done the series. Most of the time the episodes dwell on stupid things while having Don or Peggy talk about some ad they are working on. Don Draper is a genius ad man but i just isnt enough to really keep me glued to the tv. In comparison,House MD was just phenomenal .Every season was brilliant. It was such a smart show. I just finished binge watching it 2 months ago for the first time. Boy was I upset they took it off in April. I heard almost all of the medical jargon was correct too. On top of this, Hugh Laurie deserved an Emmy and Golden Globe every freaking year for his amazing performances. Also so many things were going on- you know what i mean- ON top of a medical mystery every episode, people got sick and died , relationships came and went, old characters left, new characters were introduced. I was extremely satisfied with House's ending. Mad Mens finale was pretty awful. Mad Men just mainly relies on nostalgia. Don't get me wrong, the period is interesting to watch how things were back then, but that and Roger are about the only interesting things to see here .I actually bought just recently a Mad Men companion book because I literally didn't understand half of the cultural period references. I am planning on rewatching while reading each chapter- so can FINALLY understand what they are talking about. If any show needed a text or commentary track - its this one. I was falling asleep half the time. Then they downplayed half of the events in the background that actually had taken place( e.g. JFKs assassination etc) I wasnt the only one who felt this way- I read online . many reviewers on TV websites have called it one of the most overrated shows of all time. What was the other Netflix showed you binged besides House you watched? I could recommend some better shows to watch on Netflix. Feel free to ask.

Its ok, thanks for the warning and made me stay away from it instead of another failure of a series which brings me to answering of which other series I've tried after House. Let me first tell you all failed and they were: Sherlock, Elementary, The Black list and House of Cards. I started and just wasn't able to finish them their main star just didn't convince me as a The Anti Hero to root for. Hugh Laurie was so great that now everyone compared to him looks dull. So yeah I agree Hugh Should have won all the awards for that performance every year that show was on air. His performance was beyond perfect. It was so good that I hatted every character who disagreed with him or gave him a really hard time. i Just wanted House to get his way every single second so for that reason well i didn't love the ending that much I wished House wouldn't have need to fake his death and been freed at the last second like he was eith Tritter and Vogler that's why I didn't like Foreman I thought damn if Cuddy would have been there she would have saved him one last time. But yes the series had a bitt of everything romance, comedy Drama and a bitt of suspense. Its the most perfect series I ever seen though i prefer the first 4 seasons over the latter 4, it just had nicer and lighter more comedic tone.

I NEVER understood the facination with this show. I barely sat through a few episodes of this and was bored to death. It's not as if I didn't " get it ". Yeah. I get it. The sets and costumes and vibe of the show was ALL SO ACCURATE. Yeah yeah yeah. So what. Who cares ?! What's so interesting about a bunch of guys in an ad office drinking scotch and smoking and being chauvinists? Don't waste your time with this nonsense.

Not liking Mad Men is not a big deal.
I've never been a fan of Breaking Bad.
What's silly is to pretend the problem has to do with the quality of the show rather than the tastes of the viewer.
Mad men was pert near universally viewed as awesome which means that if someone had a problem with it, it was one of preference and not quality.

I didn't become a regular viewer until around the fifth season and got hooked on it.
