Very cool picture, but I say no to an all-dirt infield. It's cool with a mound of dirt in the middle of a grass diamond. The umpire is right behind the pitcher, it looks weird.

No infield shift. I like it.

What a cool old photo.
What I love about it is the trees and the natural look. I prefer that to seeing the outfield walls, scoreboards, ads and other junk they now have.

And I wonder how many baseballs they had back then. Like when did the pitcher wanna change it practically after every pitch and after foul balls and stuff. You think baseball is boring now? The first and third basemen probably had to go and retrieve the foul balls every time and then get back into position. "Well boys. That's it. Game over!" "But it's only the first inning. Why?" "Look how beat up the baseball is. Unless anyone has a spare, that's it."
As for the ump behind the pitcher, that makes sense. For safety and that is the perspective when we watch at home so that gives him a good view.
